Conservatives refuse to acknowledge that there are some things that government does better and cheaper than private business, and that the government should be doing those things without obstruction.

Since conservative re-structuring began under Reagan, it has been conservatives who have grown the government. Reagan hired one million civil servants during his second term in order to combat high unemployment at the time. His comment was that civil servants bought houses, cars, and clothing, just like every other employee and it was good for the economy. The size of government decreased under both Clinton and Obama, and grew under Reagan, Bush1 and Bush2.

W created the Department of Homeland Security - now one of the biggest departments in government. Did he raise taxes to fund Homeland Security? No he did not.

And your claim that Republicans want to end regulations is laughable. What they would like to do is cut down on regulations. Right now we are awash with well intentioned regulations but because so many of them didn't do what they were intended to do, new regulations then had to be passed in an attempt to fix the existing regulations! What we now have is layer...after layer...after layer...of government regulations to the point that our businesses spend billions of dollars trying to comply with them.
