The Problem with Socialism

Capitalists aren't anarchists. Capitalism can only work within a government.
That's what I said, dumbfuck.
Wrong, dumbfuck. You've made the case all along that any government is evidence of socialism.
I did? No, dumbfuck. I made the case for regulated capitalism.

Go fight with Bripat, who says the government offers capitalism nothing. And read the fucking thread next time.

Having a government is not necessarily socialism, but statism.

Also, anarcho capitalism is a subset of capitalism.

This book should be required reading in the p-schools, but we all know it won't.

Remember when "socialism" was a dirty word? Now students at America's elite universities are parroting socialist talking points and "sure-thing" Hillary Clinton is struggling to win the Democratic nomination against a 74-year-old avowed socialist who promises to make the nation more like Europe. What's happened? Do Americans need a reminder about the dangers of socialist ideology and practices?

Thomas DiLorenzo, economics professor and senior fellow at the Ludwig von Mises Institute, deconstructs the retrograde ideology that has suddenly become disturbingly hip in The Problem with Socialism.

DiLorenzo has also spoken out in favor of the secession of the Confederate States of America, defending the right of these states to secede.

We should stop taking people's money by force to provide these services, and we should provide them ourselves voluntarily.
Who are you defending? Goldman/Sachs and other Wall Street and corporate criminals? -- every one of whom deserve to be stripped of every dime they have and tossed into Leavenworth for what they've done to our economy.

You obviously have been brainwashed by right-wing water carriers and such propagandists as Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, et al. I urge you to seek other points of view and to educate yourself.

So far the government has only funneled money from you to these criminals. You deserve the consequences of what you fight for.

Complete hogwash. Every western country was what can be easily considered libertarian 100 years ago. Then women got the right to vote after we had massed a never before seen amount of wealth and growth. You can only guess which ideology those depending on other's resources will vote for. You don't need to guess what the result was to the goose that lays the golden egg.¨

Further, there are some very libertarian nations even today. Hong Kong and Singapore come to mind.

According to the map not many... and that's of today.... just pointing out that the word doesn't actually have any meaning since.... 1000 years ago?

Besides that, nothing about monarchism prevents libertarianism. So it was a non-argument to begin with.

"Libertarianism (Latin: liber, "free") is a political philosophy that upholds liberty as its principal objective. Libertarians seek to maximize autonomy and freedom of choice, emphasizing political freedom, voluntary association, and the primacy of individual judgment.[1][2]

Libertarians generally share a skepticism of authority; however, they diverge on the scope of their opposition to existing political and economic systems. Various schools of libertarian thought offer a range of views regarding the legitimate functions of state and private power, often calling to restrict or even to wholly dissolve coercive social institutions. Rather than embodying a singular, rigid systematic theory or ideology, libertarianism has been applied as an umbrella term to a wide range of sometimes discordant political ideas through modern history."

The King just ordered me to do this or I lose my head, but I'm a libertarian so I'll just ignore him. He won't mind.

You're a fucking idiot.

Who am I defending? Everyone really. My position is that the government ought to protect property rights, not violate them, so that it can hand out favors.

And please don't think I'm defending the government-run banking system. Because I'm not. Banks should be privately run and should sink or swim, like any other business.

Apologies if I misunderstood your premise. But please be more specific about what property rights you are concerned with government violating.

I should tell you I am a socialist but I have no tolerance for government tampering with any citizen's Constitutional and otherwise established rights without having justifiable and universally beneficial cause.

Please, check your IQ before posting, for the love of Christ. Some libertarians in fact advocate for monarchy, because kings expand government less than open democracy tends to.

We were more free under the monarchy than we are now. The Monarchy only took 5% of GDP in taxes. The government now takes 45% in taxes. So under democracy we pay 10 times more than we paid under the Monarchy.

Yes, he does defend the right of the Confederate states to secede. That makes him honest and correct.
America was very libertarian until 1914. Most European countries were almost as libertarian. That's when the industrial revolution occurred. the relationship was not a coincidence.

I'm completely done with your dogma. Anyone who rejects Adam Smith has no right to even comment on the price of a condom, let alone economic systems.
