The Problem with Socialism

Our standard of living would skyrocket if government was cut in half.

People who think government improves their lives are the ones who don't understand government.

Please name a nation with less government than this one.

1 Hong Kong
2 Singapore
3 New Zealand
4 Switzerland
5 Australia
6 Canada
7 Chile
8 Ireland
9 Estonia
10 United Kingdom
11 United States

Apparenlty you're not including gun laws?

If you want to know the methodology used, go to the Heritage Index of Economic Freedom website:

Country Rankings: World & Global Economy Rankings on Economic Freedom

So you can't really articulate it then, 'cause you didn't even read it through, this is just another linkoff/googleoff "so there" kinda thing. Is this the same Heritage Foundation that crafted "obamacare"?

The methodology is many pages long. I'm not going to reproduce that when you can simply read it for yourself.

You're just too fucking lazy to do it.

What does "paid up or cut deals for" mean? The government played no part in the invention of the light bulb or the initial construction of the electrical grid. Government normally gets involved only after a technology has proven itself and is expanding rapidly. Government always wants to horn in on the action.

Pitcairn Island has no government, per se. You can do whatever you please as long as you do not harm anyone. It is the paradise you seem to want, so please for your sake and sanity (it there is any sanity to save) catch the next boat out.
Cuba has your idea of the perfect government, so why don't you emigrate your ugly ass to Cuba?

Cuba? Not, though I'd like to visit and see "my" '57 Chevy still on the road - that would be cool. My dad sold mine when I left on active duty, for (gasp) $125.00

I do have a quesition for you, why do you feel the need to post four, five, six etc. in a row. Does the brain in your ugly ass have so few synapses you can't combine thoughts (thoughts - lol that's an overstatement).
Hmmm, perhaps it's because I get six or seven posts addressed to me from the same thread in a row.

Alternatively you might be a bit obsessed.

Accusing their critics of having emotional problems is a favorite leftwing tactic.

How electricity grew up? A brief history of the electrical grid…

He won't like this one, it uses words he hates, grow up.

So your story is about how FDR forced poor people living in cities to subsidize electricity for people living in rural areas. And this is supposed to make what point?

FDR saved capitalism in america, just say thank you. We're at the same type of inflection point again and I see no one with his insight that will stave off the eventual wielding of pitch forks. The power structure understands very well it has lost all semblance of legitimacy. That’s why police departments have been militarized.

FDR destroyed capitalism. He also destroyed the Constitution.

There are people who think they could maintain their current standard of living if "the government" were cut in half. Or....laughably....improve their standard of living.

These are funny people who don't understand how things work.

Our standard of living would skyrocket if government was cut in half.

People who think government improves their lives are the ones who don't understand government.
Yes, life was so much better when the government didn't regulate food,or drugs, or build roads. Of course the water was unsafe to drink, the food was tainted, and the drugs poison but oh how I long for those good old days.

Life wasn't as good then because material welfare improves over time. The farther you go back, the less the material welfare. It has nothing to do with the expansion of government, which has only the effect of retarding the improvement in material welfare.

You're blaming capitalism for problems that were mostly the fault of ignorance. Food and water quality were worse in countries that didn't have an industrial revolution. The fact is that during the industrial revolution life expectancy was higher than it had ever been. Infant mortality rates were at an all time low.

Your dogma is deeply dull, like you.

This book should be required reading in the p-schools, but we all know it won't.

From the author of 'The Real Lincoln'...one of the greatest history books ever written. It should also be required reading for all Americans, but we all know it won't.

Remember when "socialism" was a dirty word? Now students at America's elite universities are parroting socialist talking points and "sure-thing" Hillary Clinton is struggling to win the Democratic nomination against a 74-year-old avowed socialist who promises to make the nation more like Europe. What's happened? Do Americans need a reminder about the dangers of socialist ideology and practices?

Thomas DiLorenzo, economics professor and senior fellow at the Ludwig von Mises Institute, deconstructs the retrograde ideology that has suddenly become disturbingly hip in The Problem with Socialism.
Make sure you read the other important work, The Problem with Capitalism.
Like what? That you are expected to get off your ass and make your own way? Your problem isn't the achievers' problem. We like capitalism.
If you don't know the problems of capitalism, then you don't know capitalism.

well name the problems? It's what you have survived off all these years, no? You would trade all that in for Socialism/communism?
Ever see pictures of bread lines during the Great Depression and other times in the US?

Your Pollyanna version of history is as bad as your Pollyanna version of capitalism.

My story is about how the government succeeded where capitalism failed.

It didn't fail. Forcing people living in cities to subsidize farmers is not the definition of "success." However, that's the story of government: robbing Peter to pay Paul. That's how politicians get Paul's vote.

Check this out. This is why we need the EPA to be even more involved than it is today.

First Test Results Show High Cadmium and Arsenic in Kids Living Near Bullseye Glass

Do they even use Cadmium or Arsenic to make glass? Not to my knowledge. Furthermore, nowhere in the story is the EPA even mentioned.

Are you telling me that the article misrepresented the ingredients needed to make stained glass? Are you terminally disagreeable? I don't think I've ever encountered someone who is as negative as you.

Yours is the Pollyanna version of history where capitalists are evil malefactors and government steps in time after time to save the people.

That's a fantasy version of history.

Which is why many don’t even bother to read his ignorant, moronic posts anymore – he contributes noting of value or substance to any thread.

That's not my version. In my version, the correct one, capitalism is a hammer, you can build a house with it or kill the guy next door. It's a tool, a tool that requires what government provides.

Who says these companies make stained glass? Certainly, the article doesn't mention it. Furthermore, the Cadmium found in the woman's child was only slightly above government limits, which are generally many times lower than the level where harm is observed.

Just save the dogma. No one is interested.

And although the GOP believes in gaining votes by doing nothing, most Americans don't. They actually like the government to find solutions and help life along.

The Great Depression was a problem the government created.
