The UK Treasury is considering a so-called ‘Amazon tax’ on online retailers

Philip Hammond’s, proposal for a so-called ‘Amazon tax’ on online retailers addresses a legitimate problem.

When multinational businesses can cut their tax bills despite soaring profits, that’s a sign of an ill-designed and out of date tax code. The
Chancellor of the Exchequer is right to take corrective measures.

There’s a case for an ‘Amazon tax’, but it isn’t saving the high street | Conservative Home

Oh, this should have happened a long time ago.

The British high street is crumbling down because it's much, much cheaper to buy online because local businesses can't compete with national businesses who now can't compete with Amazon and the like.

Online has changed the structure of local government finance in many ways. Local authorities used to collect business rates from shops in their town and these went to fund local services. It was a huge sum of money.
When these stores start closing down that revenue vanishes. The likes of Amazon are parasites. They want to feed off our society without contributing to its upkeep.
I hope the revenues raised go to the local authorities and not to tory donors in the form of tax cuts.

Can you imagine the Tories doing anything for the benefit of the country over the benefit of the rich?

I know that wasnt a serious question.

There should be international taxation based on profits gained in each country.
