I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but Irma is clobbering (will) one "place to get a winter tan" after another: St. Barts, St. Maarten, South Florida, Virgin Islands, Turks and Caicos, etc.
Several things I'm curious to see:- What sort of reporting we get in the storm's wake.
- How go the recovery efforts.
- What "firesale" bargains there will be to be had.
- What the post-storm populations will be on the affected locales, especially the islands.
- Economic impact, especially on the islands where "everything" revolves around tourism. Take Barbuda and the Dom. Republic for instance. Those islands provide a lot of the food that's consumed on the rest of them, and the lion's share of that food is consumed by tourists. Throughout the islands, fishing sustained many a local household that sold their catch straight off a boat to vacationers. (That's where/how I came to absolutely love skate.)
