Fired U.S. pardon attorney complains of intimidation tactics ahead of testimony in 'shadow hearing'

WASHINGTON — A lawyer representing the former U.S. pardon attorney complained in a letter to the Justice Department that it was using "security resources to intimidate" Liz Oyer ahead of her planned participation in a "shadow" hearing held Monday by congressional Democrats.

The letter said the Justice Department dispatched special deputy U.S. marshals to the home of Oyer, who said she was fired after she opposed adding actor Mel Gibson to a list of people having their gun rights restored. (A Justice Department official disputed that the Gibson case drove her dismissal.) The special deputy U.S. marshals had been told to deliver a letter warning Oyer to obey her obligation not to reveal information protected by executive privilege at the event Monday. Ultimately, they did not deliver the letter, after Oyer confirmed receipt of the message to a secondary email.

In a nutshell, Oyer voiced her objection to trump fan Mel Gibson having his gun rights restored. Not only was she fired, the regime tried to prevent her congressional testimony (watch the YouTube video and you'll see why) by way of intimidation. They failed. But only due to Oyer's courage.

This thread will be forgotten by trump supporters within days if not hours. (trump fans insert snark here) Not only because a story like this encapsulates so many things that are wrong about how it is destroying America's most vital institutions, but because there are so many stories like it.

Justice Dept. Lawyers Are Struggling to Defend Trump’s Policies in Court

The Trump administration’s aggressive efforts to enact major elements of its agenda have led to a series of courtroom clashes between increasingly skeptical judges and the beleaguered lawyers responsible for defending the government’s positions, which some have come to see as indefensible.

The Justice Department’s thinned-out civil division has borne the brunt of the growing conflict. Inside the division, the strains of pushing the legal limits on topics as varied as mass deportations, spending power and punishing law firms are taking a major toll. Government litigators, their ranks increasingly depleted, often find themselves in court with few facts to defend policies they cannot explain, according to current and former officials.

Career lawyers representing the government have a long tradition of arguing for the goals of Republican or Democratic administrations, regardless of their personal views. What is different now, they say, is that they increasingly feel trapped between President Trump’s partisan political appointees, who insist on a maximalist approach, and judges who demand comprehensible answers to basic questions.
The most vivid example of this squeeze came on Saturday when one of the department’s senior immigration lawyers, Erez Reuveni, was suspended indefinitely after speaking candidly about the administration’s mistaken deportation of a Maryland man to a notorious megaprison in El Salvador.

A senior Justice Department immigration lawyer was put on indefinite leave Saturday after questioning the Trump administration’s decision to deport a Maryland man to El Salvador — one day after representing the government in court.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche suspended Erez Reuveni, the acting deputy director of the department’s immigration litigation division, for failing to “follow a directive from your superiors,” according to a letter sent to Mr. Reuveni and obtained by The New York Times.

Mr. Reuveni — who was praised as a “top-notched” prosecutor by his superiors in an email announcing his promotion two weeks ago — is the latest career official to be suspended, demoted, transferred or fired for refusing to comply with a directive from President Trump’s appointees to take actions they deem improper or unethical.

Personally, I don't have any sympathy for a lawyer who voluntarily went to work for the regime since they knew, or should have known, what they were getting involved in. Putting put in a position to violate their oath as an attorney by doing what they are told by people like Todd Blanche was inevitable. Their client, the government, is corrupt. Duh.

Wow, a Xiden admin pardon attorney talking about Corruption? hahaha....how many unprecedented blanket pardons did she approve?

Disparaging Schiff and Raskin is nothing more than a way to deflect from the essence of the story. Pardons are supposed to be reviewed for approval by the pardon office. trump circumvented the office in order to pardon violent criminals who were part of his Jan. 6 mob.
This is just another way trump has violated protocols in order to do something outrageously unethical and dangerous.
Pointing out the extreme bias of “investigators” is quite pertinent.

And your extreme bias is showing. You’re questioning Trump’s pardons after Biden issued pardons for hundreds of people for crimes that MAY be discovered? GMAB.

Your lawfare is over. Get use to it.

They brought in a person to testify at a congressional hearing. Their attitude about Dotard has no bearing on her testimony. Try again.

I found her story unconvincing, exhibiting a sense of entitlement on her part. At times one needs to suck it up and do their job. If that's asking too much then quit, otherwise know your place.

:auiqs.jpg: :auiqs.jpg: :auiqs.jpg: :auiqs.jpg:no, YOU insane leftists squeal about it constantly.

Normal people are quite happy to see corrupt bureaucrats sent packing.

Face it, your entire way of life is over for the next 3.7 years. No longer do you get to suck off of the public tit.

In other words, stop crying, and go get a real job.

It literally was nothing more than a poorly scripted and produced infomercial designed to sell the idea that President Trump should not be returned to office

No infomercial in the history of history has ever been less effective.

IKR? Berg is complaining that Trump pardoned “violent rioters” after 4 years in prison - while ignoring how Biden came out with a long, long list pardoning hundreds of people who haven’t yet even been charged with a crime….but just in case.

Their TDS blinds them to their hypocrisy.

Any employee of the executive branch who had gone against the Biden presidency policies are set by whoever the heck was running Biden while he was so out of it would’ve been fired on the spot.

As they should have been. For better for worse, the American people elected Joe Biden, and it was his presidency to run as he saw it. No matter how powerful a person position is within the executive branch that power is borrowed from the president.

There is no provision in the constitution for pardon attorneys to have their own power. If that attorney hated Trump that much, she should have resign gracefully and started chopping her resume. No doubt someone with that experience could occupy a lucrative niche in a big law firm.

Now she has made a jerk of herself and revealed herself to be a person who likes to go against her boss. Never a bright spot on any résumé.

They also chose WHOM to bring in order to present a one-sided view.
Repub members of the pertinent committees are free to call rebuttal witnesses or question Oyer. They are in charge right now.

But my understanding is there were no Repubs present when Oyer gave her testimony because they just want the whole thing to go away. Not that I blame them. In their minds the sooner the public forgets about trump pardoning violent criminals the better.

They brought in a xiden holdover pardon attorney that was in office when they signed off on unprecedented blanket pardons and she complaining because Mel Gibson wants his gun rights back from a misdemeanor for decades ago?? Hahaa

To whatever extent they were “violent,” four years in prison is more than sufficent.

A bigger concern is that Biden issued blanket pardons to people to excuse them from any crimes they MIGHT have committed that nobody knows about yet….and may find out.
