Many of the politically left of center see the 'protests' as between the left and the right, when what may be happening is that there is a growing sense that what we need is a total overhaul of those 'benefitting, not serving' in Congress. This includes a Christopher Dodd and a John Boehner.

$550 Million Slated for Purchase of Eight More Planes as Lawmakers' Travel Soars
By BRODY MULLINS

WASHINGTON -- Congress plans to spend $550 million to buy eight jets, a substantial upgrade to the fleet used by federal officials at a time when lawmakers have criticized the use of corporate jets by companies receiving taxpayer funds.

The purchases will help accommodate growing travel demand by congressional officials. The planes augment a fleet of about two dozen passenger jets maintained by the Air Force for lawmakers, administration officials and military chiefs to fly on government trips in the U.S. and abroad...

This month, for example, 11 separate congressional delegations will swing through Germany. House Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio is leading five other lawmakers on a trip around the world. Sen. Richard Shelby (R., Ala.) is taking a group of senators and their spouses to Europe for three weeks.

A spokesman for Mr. Boehner said he couldn't comment on the trip for security reasons. A spokeswoman for Mr. Shelby said the same....

Whether it's sweetheart deals or taxpayer paid vacations, cloaked in national security disclaimers, we shouldn't be paying for it.

They all need to go.

Nope, it's both Democrats and Republicans. They are all wanting to be our daddy, then leave us at home while they party it up. They are not a good daddy. We are all Cinderella's and Cinderfella's, but there isn't a prince or princesses coming to save us!

WASHINGTON -- When 10 members of Congress wanted to study climate change, they did more than just dip their toes into the subject: They went diving and snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef. They also rode a cable car through the Australian rain forest, visited a penguin rookery and flew to the South Pole.

it is both parties...because powerful people like the perks of their power.

but i think this actually bugs me more because they're paying for their members to essentially run a separate foreign policy:

I know, just like Barney Frank

Media Mum on Barney Frank's Fannie Mae Love Connection

Media Mum on Barney Frank's Fannie Mae Love Connection
Democratic House Financial Services Committee Chair promoted GSEs while former 'spouse' was Fannie Mae executive.

Are journalists playing favorites with some of the key political figures involved with regulatory oversight of U.S. financial markets?

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews launched several vitriolic attacks on the Republican Party on his Sept. 17, 2008, show, suggesting blame for Wall Street problems should be focused in a partisan way. However, he and other media have failed to thoroughly examine the Democratic side of the blame game.

Prominent Democrats ran Fannie Mae, the same government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) that donated campaign cash to top Democrats. And one of Fannie Mae’s main defenders in the House – Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., a recipient of more than $40,000 in campaign donations from Fannie since 1989 – was once romantically involved with a Fannie Mae executive.

The media coverage of Frank’s coziness with Fannie Mae and his pro-Fannie Mae stances has been lacking. Of the eight appearances Frank made on the three broadcasts networks between Jan. 1, 2008, and Sept. 21, 2008, none of his comments dealt with the potential conflicts of interest. Only six of the appearances dealt with the economy in general and two of those appearances, including an April 6, 2008 appearance on CBS’s “60 Minutes” were about his opposition to a manned mission to Mars.

Frank has argued that family life “should be fair game for campaign discussion,” wrote the Associated Press on Sept. 2. The comment was in reference to GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin and her pregnant daughter. “They’re the ones that made an issue of her family,” the Massachusetts Democrat said to the AP.

The news media have covered the relationship in the past, but there have been no mentions since 2005, according to Nexis and despite the collapse of Fannie Mae. The July 3, 1998, Reliable Source column in The Washington Post reported Frank, who is openly gay, had a relationship with Herb Moses, an executive for the now-government controlled Fannie Mae. The column revealed the two had split up at the time but also said Frank was referring to Moses as his “spouse.” Another Washington Post report said Frank called Moses his “lover” and that the two were “still friends” after the breakup.

Frank was and remains a stalwart defender of Fannie Mae, which is now under FBI investigation along with its sister organization Freddie Mac, American International Group Inc. (NYSE:AIG) and Lehman Brothers (NYSE:LEH) – all recently participants in government bailouts. But Frank has derailed efforts to regulate the institution, as well as denying it posed any financial risk. Frank’s office has been unresponsive to efforts by the Business & Media Institute to comment on these potential conflicts of interest.

As I said, throw them all out!

Power corrupts. Money corrupts. The entrenched 2-party system corrupts. Throw the bums out.

On the other hand, we generally have a tendency to whine about career politicians on one hand then blast pols for being "inexperienced" on the other. Can't have it both ways, you know.

I know, just like Barney Frank

No, Kathianne. Not like Barney Frank. You're a teacher, for heaven's sake, you're supposed to understand analogies and how to make them.

The C-Streeters go to foreign countries, using their status as representativs of this country and try to "encourage" Jesus-based tyranical governments.

Big no no doing that in our name.

We can't throw the bums out. Isn't it time for face the facts ? They own us and will decide our voting options for us.

Depressing, but true. Otherwise the right to vote for our choices wouldn't be dependent on membership in a private club.

That's really not nearly enough to solve the problem.

Power corrupts and our current government is designed in such a way that it is legally corrupted.

It's not merely the guys in Congress, eithe, it's the whole damned power and control establishment.

It's the revolving door of former government workers (and pols) that takes them from overseeing big business into working FOR those big businesses.

I know this will annoy many of you to the extreme, but this problem includes many of our military caste, too. Top brass are no less politicial animals than congressmen are, folks

The problem all stems from the Supreme Court ruling that MONEY = FREE SPEECH, incidently.

That guarantees that our political system is bought and paid for by the monied interests. It is that SC ruling that sees to it that the PORK TRAIN keeps on rolling down the track.

Most of you right wingers only seem to understand HALF the problem.

You think government is the problem, when the problem is BAD goverment thanks to the system we have that encourages our government to be little more than a system of passing money from the people to the richest people on earth.

For the above observation I fully expect some of the ignorant TOOLS on this board to assume I am a communist.

But here's a clue, boys and girls...you know who else HATES communism and sees it under every bed and hear it in every truthful utterance?

CRIMINALS!!

Nobody fucking hates (what they call) communism (which is to them every government which keeps them in line) more than criminals in a CAPITALIST state.

In a communist state, of course, criminals ARE the government.

Our government is so corrupt that it doesn't even KNOW it's criminal.

But that's only to be expected since they own the law, they get to DEFINE what criminal is, now, don't they?

We need GOOD government, and frankly, I doubt we can ever reform this one to ever again be good enough.

Sorry on this one I would have to disagree....This thinking got us where we are at today in congress....remember November 2006? Many Republicans that got run out deserved it but many did not.....that's how Missouri sent up McCaskill to Washington now you have her too. Elections matter lets not make the same mistakes again.

I'm not sure I agree that's "all" of the problem, but it was a major blunder on the Supremies' part.
