Sorry I know there are many criminal activities described in Bolton's Book but the lack of actual knowledge to doing his job just gets worse...

And before you go disgruntled employee... Bolton didn't testify against Trump and then there is the other people Trump hired...

Rex Tillerson:

'Moron'

Finland used to be part of Russia, and if Mr. Trump had an older globe in his office he wouldn't have necessarily known that.

Easy mistake to be made, not everyone knows everything, that's why Presidents keep experts around staff.

Finland really hasn't produced any notable world celebrities outside of Ludwig Borga and Minea Blomqvist, I can't think of any.

I guess that he does not count as a "world celebrity," but I have read that Finland had a General Mannerheim, who did such a good job in fighting the USSR that even Marshal Stalin respected him.

And, yeah, at least the President knows that there used to be a close relationship between those two countries. Most Americans, of course, could not even find Finland on a map to save their lives!

So what? I'd bet a large sum of money that most Americans couldn't find Finland on a globe. Hardly a requirement of the job.

And if you don't think Obama or even Clinton , who most certainly is the smartest President in my lifetime at least occasionally said dumb things or asked dumb questions, well...............

Yes. Thank goodness we have experts who know Finland is not a part of Russia. I call these experts average 7th graders.

I would bet you money the average 7th grader in this country does not know that .

In fact the average American adult thinks Washington DC is in the state of Washington.

What possible reasons would Bolton have for smearing Trump?

Hint: book sales

And JFTR: Winter War - Wikipedia

Must be true, because I know that Bolton doesn't have an ax to grind. :rolleyes-41:

Finland along with so many other nations used to be part of Russia. Russias history has been of conquest, annexed/breakaway countries, and primarily, keeping nations in their political sphere. It's hard to keep track of it all to be honest.

Finland is one such country that was once ruled by Russia and remained in their sphere for so long. During the Russian revolution, nationalist push in Finland helped them gain their independence. Again, as with all the nations in their sphere, the communists try to influence them.

Where it had always been sketchy is the political sphere which they find themselves in. A heavily socialist nation with their communist roots from Russian influence, has made them difficult to peg. Even more difficult to peg in the 1980s and 90's, where I don't even think they could be viewed as liberal in the Western sense. What are they today? Highly educated with a mixed economy, with a GDP per capita higher than Canada. Still not sure where they are politically.

The amount of rationalization here is pathetic.

Obama thought that there were 57 states in America, yet that was excused by the left.

That's a lot bigger error that not knowing the current status of a minor power like Finland.
There’s a difference between a verbal mistake and asking an insane question. Saying 57 when you meant to say 47 is a simple mistake.

Asking if Finland is part of Russia demonstrates a fundamental lack of knowledge. We all know that Trump has very poor knowledge of the world. Why argue this point?
