Donald Trump’s election was a sweeping vote of no confidence for US leadership and American government. After NAFTA went into effect in 1994 it gradually became clear to many Americans that Congress in the US was rapidly devolving into an oligarchical aristocracy selling out the people for its own enrichment. In order to buy their way into a global marketplace, American politicians had to have something of value to peddle and they quickly settled on a death sentence for American health insurance and historical employee benefits including company pensions.
The Affordable Care Act also known as Obamacare, was a major stake driven through the hearts of the middle class to force them into an inferior system similar to Europe and the rest of the world where average citizens are herded into the ravages of lower-tiered healthcare while the elites enjoy the best of the best at their expense.
The first act of US Congress after the passage of the ACA was to vote itself out of its own insurance program, the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP) which would have required members of congress to enter the shabby exchanges along with everyone else. Section 1312(d)(3)(D) required members of Congress and staff to enroll in the new health insurance exchange system which means they would have lost their employer-based insurance contributions.
Because members of Congress make $174,000 a year they would have been ineligible for any subsidies just like anyone else in that income bracket. Congress desperately needed to come up with exclusive funding unavailable to average Americans stuck in the exchanges so this is where the smoke and mirrors were brought in.
Realizing that it would become more difficult to recruit more crooks to enter US politics without special favors for elites, all kinds of closed-door, backroom deals were made by the Obama administration and members of congress to get special taxpayer-paid subsidies that taxpayers would never get themselves.
Suddenly, out of the blue, Congress was a “small business” making members eligible for generous subsidies Under the Washington D.C. “SHOP” Exchange, a health insurance exchange reserved for small businesses with fewer than 50 employees. It was like magic and Congress had succeeded in handing the people a bag of fertilizer while they got the crop as usual.
But the people were not quite that stupid. They elected Trump rather than watch their pensions and health insurance sold to enrich elites.
