Are the protestors wanting a more Islamic state or is this something else?
It started off with a relatively peaceful protest by a few environmentally minded against tearing out a park and putting in a shopping center. Islamic militants were able to divert the reason for removing the park to a secular attack on islam as the park was used during prayer time by the devout as a place to roll out the prayer mats.
This is a common tactic by muslim militants. They can take any protest, no matter what the reason, and turn it into a major riot. The muslim majority of Turkey has been agitated against the avowed secularist government. Turkey's Constitution provides for religious freedom. Only 2% of Turkey isn't muslim. The majority want to change things.
Throw into this volatile mix, the Kurds who will exploit any conflict to achieve independence and you have the makings of a civil war.
Are the protestors wanting a more Islamic state or is this something else?
This is much different than the Arab Spring. It's much like the Iranian protests. Turkey used to be a moderate secular country with a near 100% Islamic population that had a growing economy, now secularism is near dead and it's run by an Islamist government that is curtailing freedoms and private enterprises.
These protesters are secularist along with the Unions against the facist Islamist in charge!
So..you've been shown..by some of conservative compatriots..to be completely wrong about the cause of the protests.
Any retort?
