Turn your neighbor in to Obama

Hey stupid, the article was not the basis for my argument. it was presented to support my argument that Politifact was indeed biased.

I certainly hope your stupidity doesn't reflect the direction society is heading. Because if it is, we're in big fucking trouble.

Whatever.

The bottom line:

JUST BECAUSE I DID NOT COMMENT ON THE REST OF THE ARTICLE DOES NOT MEAN THAT I DID NOT READ NOR COMPREHEND THE REST OF THE ARTICLE.

You erroneous presumptive jerk.

Your concession is duly noted.

:eusa_eh: How erroneous and presumptive can you be!?! I didn't concede anything.

It was very common in Nazi Germany for people to inform on their neighbors, in fact it was rewarded by Gestapo and as Germany had limited numbers of people to spy on it's entire population during the war especially most arrests made by the Gestapo of civilians were as a result of germans informing on their neighbors for one reason or the other. The practice has even found an institutional home in our society with things such as call in and report people for money... (see below)

Turn in your neighbor for $1000? Hell, if I heard any of my neighbors spouting the kind of nonsense in the paragraphs above, I'd turn them in for free. They need serious help. :cuckoo:

Was NH Man The First Victim of Obama's Snitch Line?

“NashuaDan” informed readers to “Let Obama know what ‘Live Free or Die’ means”. When I read that “live free or die” line, I’m reminded of the Ruby Ridge incident. There are probably people who believe so strongly in “living free”, as they understand it, that they are willing to resist, by any means necessary, communication with any authority figures. Some unstable or gullible people might be influenced by NashuaDan’s comment. The Secret Service acted appropriately. They did not smash through his home, haul him in handcuffs before some inquisition, and shut down his activities. They simply called and received some clarification.

All perhaps true but I can't help but wonder how much of what anyone posts on public display is ripe for reporting?

I simply do not see that comment warranting even a call from SS.

There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to [email protected].

Never in the history of our country has there been anything like what the White House is asking Americans to do. It sure does smell of Hitler in his rise to power... Obama's Administration has been snipping away at our freedoms a little at a time turning us in to a socialist nation. It has been his plan all along as evidenced by his past speeches. I am certain that it won't be long and there will be a move to ban private owership of firearms in this country. It's coming folks. For all of you that wanted to be a "Ward" of the government and taken care of from cradle to grave, just stand by. Soon the government is going to be controlling every element of your life. They have control of the banks now so they can say who gets a loan and for what purpose. They have taken over the auto industry. Mortgages can now be controlled by the government. They are trying very hard to control your health care and are in the process of that trying now to control your Freedom of Speech that was given to all by the Constitution. I do hope people will begin to open their eyes as to what is happening around them and begin to become involved in resisting this governmental movement. If it isn't stopped soon, America as we have all known it will no longer exist. Think I'm being over-reactive or blowing this situation out of control? Hope not because as Reverend Wright stated "The chickens are coming home to roost." Obama is the fox in that hen house. It's time to wake up and take some personal responsibility for yourself and your nation.

Were you asleep during W's term?

Centrism is right, its a semantic quibble between what the Administration actually wants, and what people are interpreting what they think they want.

The WH wants the info on the spin that is happening at the grassroots and underground level so they can have a chance to squash it before it spins right out of their control.

They don't give a rip as to who is saying it. They just want to know what is being said.

I'm sure that they are compiling it in a manner such as this: "OK, 50% of the emails coming in are giving spin A, 20% spin B, 10% for spin C, D and E. So we need to prioritize and formulate our counterspins in that order".

If they were trying to compile names and such for some sort of nefarious purpose, then they would be spending a whole lot of wasted man-hours on something that doesn't matter when they could better spend that time getting their message out. Compiling names doesn't give them any advantage. Getting ahead on the spin does.

Not only that, but look at your average forwarded email. Do you really think they care about tracking down who [email protected] really is?

That is quite likely either the most naive or defensively partisan comment posted today...

And yet you have no rebuttal.

Your troll-fu is weak little one.
Is it?

Stop and consider something.

When hackers get caught, and they often do, how do you suppose that their identity is ascertained?

Do you honestly believe that one can report was is being said on a Federal government server and the powers that be don't know who is doing the reporting?

As you say, your troll-fu is lacking mightily.

Hmmm. It is true that some people might flag and forward concerns that are insignificant. I suspect that in such cases, such emails will be ignored by the Secret Service (There will be no follow-up.) If someone calls 9-11 (the emergency phone number) to complain that McDonalds gave him a single-meat burger when he asked for a double-meat burger, I doubt that the police are going to come resolve the dispute.

Some people are too sensitive and some people are not sensitive enough. It almost becomes a subjective judgment call. What is an innocent joke and what is a serious threat? Yet, if the only thing that an innocent person suffers is a few minutes of lost time talking with the Secret Service, so be it. Let’s get real. That is not too great a burden.

We have the Carnivore program.(Clinton)
We have the Patriot Act. (Bush II)
We have the 'Snitch Program" (Obama)

Kill the partisan haggling and wake up.

Do you like the tone and direction? Do you want the government tied up with snitch patrol?

If this was an isolated incidence perhaps. But how often will this type of call be made? And will these calls "chill" or scare someone from posting freely on a blog, newspaper or message board?

You are missing my point I suspect. This type of news tends to inhibit free speech. People get worried. It silences some even though it is often self-silencing.

Had you botherd to read what I was responding too rather than make a judgment which your non-centerist posting suggested you would have seen that the posting suggested that this sort of "turn your neighbor in" thing is nothing new. However as you decided to use this to make a judgment, then allow me to do the same. Your name suggests you have a centerist position but I have yet to see any position that you have advocated that would suggest this. So until such time as you take the time to actually read all the postings associated with what I am responding too, then perhaps you might want to temper your so called centerist judgement.

Turn them in. Every chance you get, turn them in. The left never got a break from these assholes. Turn them in. Let them seek help from the ACLU. That's what it's there for. If you see them gathering, turn them in. If they don't have a permit, they are breaking the law. Turn them in. You overhear a plan, get a leaked memo, turn it in. Call the cops, e mail the snitch list. Make absolutely sure that the law and order crowd is the subject of the laws they loved so much for the last 40 years. Turn them in. If they get out of line, call the cops, get them arrested at every chance. Go to your town hall a day or two early and let the cops know that a disruption is being planned. Help them prepare for it so they have plastic cuffs and enough cruisers to remove the disruptors.

Turn them in. Every chance you get. They did it to us for 40+ years. Fuck 'em.

The only thing Obama is asking is for us to report e-mails, gossip, forum posts, and whatever else we might find that misrepresents the Health Care Reform Bill. They are not asking for names, e-mail adresses or anything like that. They want to know what rumors are out there, so that they may be de-bunked. They are simply trying to clear the air, and keep this debate as factual as possible. Comparing Obama or health care reform to Nazziism is ridiculous. He's not trying to spread lies and rumors, he is trying to stop them. When did Hitler or the Nazi party ever do that? Hitler did, however, use lies, myths and rumors to further his political career, much the same way Republicans are now using lies, myths and rumors about the so called "turn your neighbor in" website to discredit Obama and the Democratic party. America, please do not fall for this Republican propoganda. Republicans have been using fear to control the masses for too long. Yes, I have read 1984, and I understand it. 1984 is a work of fiction that represents one man's vision of what the world would be like under complete government control. It is not factual, nor is it based on fact. It is a slippery slope to refer to Democrats or Obama as "big brother". It's time to wake up to reality!!! Health Care Reform has been a long time coming, and to put it off any longer could be devastating! WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!

Ben, I haven't seen your name before, so welcome to the USMB.

I always like to see new members, and hope you have fun jousting with other members.

Reading your post, I find a number of errors, and, at least for now, will attribute same to a 'public school education.'

If you stay with the board, and do a bit of research, hopefully, you will become more astute.

1. "...only thing Obama is asking is for us to report e-mails, gossip, forum posts, and whatever else we might find that misrepresents the Health Care Reform "
The President has what is known as a 'bully pulpit,' meaning that his words carry a great deal of weight. Thus, when his White House hints that disagreement is wrong, folks like you buy it.
And a strategy of liberals, a group to which you belong, is to play as though they cannot 'connect the dots' if it opposes their view. For example, if the Bush White House had said 'send us any info that folks are saying that doen't agree with what we say,' you would have no trouble seeing fascism at work. Get it?

2. "... keep this debate as factual as possible..." This is exactly the oppostite of what the President wants. Proof? Why do you suppose the administration was in a rush to get this through Congress, rather than than post it on the internet first, then open and thorough debate, as we are having now? Can you guess why?

3. "much the same way Republicans are now using lies, myths and rumors about the so called "turn your neighbor in" website to discredit Obama and the Democratic party"
I'm glad that you read 1984, but now you must go back to the year 1972 and see what the Supreme Court said about President Nixon's spying and collecting data on opponents. They banned it. Again, a connect the dots moment. What effect do you suppose it has on free speech, when the President asks folks to tell what other Americans are saying? Increase the amount of opposition speech, or quell it?

4. "Republicans have been using fear to control the masses for too long.' Here is the telling phrase. Liberals always believe that they are smarter and know better what is good for others:

5. And so, my new friend Ben, the time has come for you to throw off the mental chains that have been place on you by the leftist thinking in which you have been steeped!
No truer words than these have been said: "It's time to wake up to reality!!!"
