Back in the hey day of UNIONS, the 1950s/60s, my dad was a full time carpenter for Huttig Sash & Door of St. Louis, MO. He was also in the local carpenter's union...the AFL-CIO. His annual pay for the last year he was employed in 1965 was $5,200. That was $100 per week and about $75 or $80 take home after taxes...except for that $20 per month he had to pay in union dues.

P.S. We were the middle class. And adjusted for 21st century wages, we would still be middle class.
