UPS employees received a memo which said that rising medical costs –
combined with the costs associated with the Affordable Care Act –
have made it increasingly difficult to continue providing the same level of health care benefits to our employees at an affordable cost.

One method being used to deal with Obamacare is that some companies are charging a surcharge for working spouses’ medical coverage –
however, many are handling the extra cost in the same method as UPS by not offering any coverage at all.

A UPS spokesperson, Andy McGowan, said that the new policy – which will only affect non-union members –
will save the company approximately $60 million annually.

Health care insurance premiums are RISING because of stupid ACA "pre-existing conditions" eliminated!
There was NEVER a MASSIVE AS A RULE issue that ALL people couldn't get coverage because of "pre-existing conditions"! There would never been any insurance policies written in the first place!
So now insurance companies HAVE to pay ALL claims for smokers and non-smokers, for extreme sports participants to people that sit at a computer... BOTH are NOW paying the same rate.. which has INCREASED because NOW

Some companies are just planning on closing their doors.

So as a result of Obamacare, UPS HAS TO PAY MORE and as a result UPS had to make a decision.
Cover spouses or cover shareholders. Most spouses don't own stock BUT their UPS employee spouse does!
And if the UPS employee/spouse/shareholder's stock value declines because profits are reduced... how do most of the UPS shareholders think? And the UPS employee shareholder doesn't want to sell!

So once again idiot OBAMACARE hasn't thought anything through and once again this shows that
if they can't even figure out there are NOT 46 million people that want insurance but less then 4 million..

United Parcel Service Inc. plans to remove thousands of spouses from its medical plan because they are eligible for coverage elsewhere. The Atlanta-based logistics company points to the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, as a big reason for the decision, reports Kaiser Health News.

...UPS repeatedly cites Obamacare to explain the decision, adding fuel to the debate over whether it erodes traditional employer coverage, Kaiser says.

Rising medical costs, “combined with the costs associated with the Affordable Care Act, have made it increasingly difficult to continue providing the same level of health care benefits to our employees at an affordable cost,” UPS said in a memo to employees.

According to Kaiser, UPS (NYSE: UPS) told white-collar workers two months ago that 15,000 working spouses eligible for coverage by their own employers would be excluded from the UPS plan in 2014.
