Never thought I'd be saying this, but good job Harry Reid.

He grew a spine and it paid off.

Last night, Nevada Senator Dean Heller, a Republican, warned on ABC News that the threat by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to trigger the so-called “nuclear option” to eliminate the filibuster of presidential nominees would touch off a political feud that would be like “the Hatfields and the McCoys on steroids.” This morning, the Hatfields and McCoys called a truce.

The terms of the deal struck between Democrats and Republicans, which was brokered by, um, Sheriff John McCain (R-Ariz.), are highly favorable to the Democrats. Reid will get the votes he desires on the nominations of Richard Cordray to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Thomas Perez as Labor Secretary, and Gina McCarthy to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, along with several others. Cordray’s vote is particularly significant, because Republicans had blocked him not because they thought he was unqualified, but because they strenuously objected to the very existence of the CFPB. (Here’s a list of all the GOP senators (PDF) who vowed not to confirm a director without significant reforms to the bureau.) That’s a big win for Reid, even though there was no justification for blocking Cordray in the first place, since the Congress had passed—and the president signed—a law bringing the CFPB into being.

Cordray was confirmed today!

:clap2:

Dirty Harry Reid strikes again. Too bad he didn't die in that automobile accident. That would have been a national tragedy.

How does wishing for his death accomplish anything other than make you a murderer in your heart?

This is another example of why I left the Republican party. Actually one side wishing death on the other was kind of the last straw.

Um people on the left do that all the time you know. It's wrong from both sides.

The Republicans won the deal. They still got two members nixed from the NLRB. So what good did he actually do? Richard Cordray? Really?

Eyeah..dude.

That's huge.

In what way? Explain yourself.

Sure.

First off Cordray is a very competent executive with respect from both sides of the aisle.

And second, Republicans were trying to kill the Consumer Protection Bureau by leaving it leaderless.

This is actually a big win for everyone.

INCLUDING Republicans.

The two members who were nixed from the NRLB-the Reps promised to appoint the new people Obama puts up. They just got rid of those because they were recess appointments. The Dems got 7 people confirmed in positions that have needed to be filled for awhile. It's a partial win. They should of changed the rules.

Now, let me go neg that disgusting post by R.C. Christian.

But by threatening to destroy one branch of congress to get it. That's playing with fire. If Reid had been defied, he would have set precedent for filibuster proof simplified 51 vote majorities for years to come. That is an overly heavy handed tactic. And it would come to bite the next Democratic president/majority in the ass. Would you have been angry if Boehner had done the same thing in the House over a proverbial Republican presidential appointment?

McCain gave away the friggin store again.

Why doesn't he just jump over the Democrat side instead of pretending to be a Republican?

Anything involving John McCain is guaranteed to be a disaster for America. Just like John McCain was a disaster for the USS Forrestal, he has been an even bigger disaster for America. The only difference is, instead of firing rockets into the deck of the Forrestal, McCain is now firing rockets into the deck of America. Between John McCain and Lyndsey Graham, it would be tough to decide which one is the Benedict Arnold of today....might need to flip a coin.

…there was no justification for blocking Cordray in the first place…

There was no justification to block the vast majority of Obama’s nominees in the first place – being nominated by a democratic president is not ‘justification.’

So we should just allow Obama to appoint whomever he wishes? Even Bush didn't get that kind of treatment.

Heavens Clayton, you are such a hypocrite.
