These cults did not exist before the 1960s except as perhaps fringe ideas on the periphery of Muslim society. These violent Islamist groups were created by the CIA, radical Islam was used by the US to thwart Russian ambitions in Muslim regions, the Saudis did the bulk of the footwork while the CIA sent the money and pulled the strings.
