I think these two intended to blow themselves up. They tried to set off a bomb at the shooting site and it didn't go off. There was another bomb in their car that they apparently tried (and failed) to detonate. The FBI found 12 more at their house. Thankfully it appear the two were incompetent in making bombs.

FYI - EVERYTHING they had and used can be purchased on the black market, out of car trunks, and thru gangs. Just because they had it, doesn't mean they got it thru legit dealers.
