Women have been driving in Oman since 2019, following a royal decree by King Salman in 2017. In 2021, 48.2% of the 339,000 driving licenses issued in Oman were to women, and the number of women getting driver's licenses has been growing.

Women can apply for a general taxi license at any of the 18 driving schools in Oman's cities, and some companies have started women-only taxi services.

For example, Otaxi's women-only service is available in Muscat and includes additional security features like route tracking and fixed prices. Some say that women taxi drivers like Zayana are role models who challenge stereotypes and encourage other women to work.

Women have always had property rights in Islam.

2008, Oman granted women the same right to own land as men, which was a significant legal advancement towards gender equality. However, according to housing ministry officials, only a small percentage of women in Oman own property. Additionally, the Personal Status Law, which defines inheritance rules, follows Sharia principles and women often receive less than men. For example, daughters may receive half the share of their sons. In addition, if a man owns the title deed to a house, a divorced woman must leave the house, even if she has custody of her children. Some women also say that their husbands use their property ownership to control them.
