Why do taxpayers pay for conventions ?

so you think it's cool the people pay for this bull hit when their votes don't even count?
Besides they donate.. Goddamn, did anybody read the link passed the second paragraph?
votes count, just not in the way you childishly demand they should
You mean like the majority picking their representative? Lol moron
The majority does pick their representatives. In a party, the majority of the party, gets to set the rules on how a nominee is selected. You are confusing selecting a nominee of a party, with a general election.

you fail basic Civics 101
LMAO

If taxpayers are paying for these conventions, their voice needs to be heard over that of the establishment..
When we have Super delegates making a difference in an election, it's wrong. When states cancel the primaries and announce a winner by the vote of RNC members, it's wrong. This is not what out founding fathers intended.
Your post reminds of the arguments of people saying to Law Enforcement "We pay your salaries" as if the LE officers are not tax payers themselves.

The establishment are voters too. I would go so far as to say they are better citizens, because of their involvement during all the years in between the four years. Every four years out of the blue, people like you show up and pout, shout, and scream. It may be your right, but your lack of commitment and involvement in the political process, where the often difficult and hard work goes on, leaves you with little credibility to argue who should and should not be heard.

???? The establishment are more than just voters as the rest of the citizenry. They are voting at the exclusion of US citizens. You don't see anything wrong with that??!!

Where is the Constitution does it say that the only people eligible to vote are those who demonstrate a commitment and involvement in the political process?

When the Establishment are the only votes that counts, it opens up the entire process to corruption which is prob ably taking place as we speak!

Are you sure you are not looking in the mirror?
Positively.

Do you know anything about politics and elections, and voting rules and regulations?

This coming from the guy that said voters pick party rules

as we have seen this year the parties selection process is not as democratic as u would think . Why do they receive millions in taxpayer funds just to pick their guys ?

I just found a link to convention costs , never mind all the primary expenses . Shouldn't they foot their own bill?

Who Pays for the Political Conventions?

American taxpayers help pay for the political conventions held every four years by both the Republican and Democratic national committees. The conventions cost tens of millions of dollars and are put on even though there have been no brokered conventions and every presidential nominee in modern history has been chosen well beforehand.

Taxpayers directly contributed $18,248,300 million to the Republican and Democratic national committees, or a total of $36.5 million, to hold their presidential nominating conventions in Election 2012.

That may be so, but this convention will really help our city greatly. It's going to bring in millions of dollars and some recognition besides the Cavs.:badgrin::badgrin:

But seriously, who would you rather pay for the conventions?

This just might be one of the craziest threads on the interwebs. The whole of the basic premise astounds like few other arguments have.

Cities fight over having an opportunity to host a national convention. We are talking about Presidential politics. What's next -- why should we pay to hold general elections? :cuckoo: We pay for security for each candidate. Should we not do that too? With freedoms and liberties comes great responsibilities. Some of those responsibilities involved putting up or shutting up.
You criticized the thread then immediately followed up with shear stupidity. Congrats! If we are going to pay taxes for anything we might as well pay for political conventions? The thread isn't crazy, you are. No matter how astounded you may be.

It's obvious to anyone paying attention there is widespread corruption in politics and thereby, government. It's a back scratching that benefits the power brokers and it happens on our dime. Any effort to fix it should be encouraged, not dismissed or ridiculed.

What a dumb fuck. No, the majority doesn't set the rules, when did they come up for a vote? The elites in the party set the rules and they do it for the system, not the people.

You fail thinking and blowing gas out of your rear end doesn't mask it.

Political conventions are like rock concerts. You might not like the noise or even the people who attend not to mention the acts but they generate wealth for the community. The only time people complain is when it doesn't go their way.

Lol, no they don't. The RNC "leaders" set the rules. Its called the "special rules committee" or something like that. Its less than 20 people setting the rules for the WHOLE primary. This is why I jumped your ass. You basically said it was cool the people pay for this crap when their votes DO NOT MATTER.
Someone even reported a GOP delegate saying "I don't even know why we have primary elections"
Two ignorant things in one post. The people willingly pay for this, and the people DO NOT have a say in the primary process. That committee could change the rules right now if they wanted and nobody could do a damn thing.

Where the Money Comes From
The taxpayer subsidies for political conventions come through the Presidential Election Campaign Fund. The account is funded by taxpayers who choose to contribute $3 to it by checking a box on the federal income tax returns. About 33 million taxpayers contribute to the fund every year, according to the Federal Election Commission.

Yeah and the government never spends more than it's supposed to

What is conveniently being called the establishment is really The Party.....

Reminds me of a song my parents liked

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to, cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too, if it happened to you.....

:)

"Someone even reported a GOP delegate saying "I don't even know why we have primary elections"" and? What does that even mean?

Of course, you are puzzled by the process of representation Who sets up the rules committees (there is more than one)? There is the standing committee on rules and I forget exactly how the GOP does it. It's not a secret. But the members (delegates), get to vote on the rules.

Did you know that when Reagan challenged rules in 1976, it went out for a vote? and the people DO NOT make or change rules in a vacuum. They are NOT all powerful.

Party members who are active and involved get their say. You have never been active in a party. You don't know what you are talking about. It's called 'talking out of your arse'

Delegates are selected by members of the party to represent them at conventions. These delegates get a vote on any and all rules. The party sets it's own rules. Hello?

The majority gets a say through representation. Why do you hate America democracy?
