Why does Trump still talk about Unity?

To the point, why does Trump STILL pay lip service to unity when it's clear that he prefers a divided nation? That part still confuses me. Does anyone actually still believe Trump has a chance to unite Americans? Maybe he had a chance RIGHT AFTER THE ELECTION, but it's been a few years since then and winning over new supporters is clearly not a priority of his. I wish he would just quit pretending and admit, "I only care about my supporters. Everyone else can get fucked." I would respect that rare moment of honesty from him.

Trump does NOT desire to unite America: That was NEVER Trump's intention when he decided to run for POTUS.

Trump cares about two things & nothing else:
(1) himself
(2) money

Trump doesn't give two shits about America, or Americans, period.

He cares so much about money he donates his presidential salary.

Trump has financial interests all over the planet YET you are stupid enuff to believe that a POTUS salary is some type of grand amount of $$$ to a person such as Trump.

Trump offering his salary (which is nothing more than a drop in Trump's bucket) to any cause is only going to offer the illusion that Trump is some how generous in some capacity.

There is a difference between a divided government and a divided people. In a democracy, divided government is the norm, but it is not normal to see the kind of vitriolic divisions among the people as we do now. If you examine President Trump's rhetoric, he fiercely attacks his political opponents, including elements of the media, but he does not attack those segments of the American people who oppose him.

Sure he does. It's completely disingenuous to say things like this after the Orange Virus attacked the owners of the Red Hen, a private establishment, for exercising their first amendment right by expressing a political opinion he didn't agree with. His supporters simply like to pretend these precedents no longer exist after the publicity around them dies down, but they do nonetheless.

On the other hand, the Democrats' close embrace of identity politics, to the exclusion of nearly all important political or economic issues, encourages divisions among the American people, seeking to persuade segments of the population to feel excluded, exploited so that Democrats can claim to be their champions. The Democratic strategy of identity politics has even tried to divide the American people in half, with Hillary declaring half the American people were unworthy of any consideration in her "deplorables" speech, the message of which has been repeated over and over by other Democratic politicians.

Democrats have been playing identity politics for decades, because historically it's kind of their 'thing'. Republicans simply woke up and embraced their policies using the same tactics. This is how 'wingerhood' became cemented into our political landscape. Today's Republicans seek to divide just as much as the Dems.

We saw again how the Democrats sought to deepen divisions among the American people during the march about Lee's statue in Charlottesville. President Trump stated that both sides were responsible for the violence, a statement that was supported by the police who were there but not by the Democrats or much of the media, but the Democrats called all those who opposed removing the statue nazes, fascists, KKK, while ignoring the antifa troops who came to the march in masks and carrying clubs. A perfect example of President Trump trying to bring the American people together and the Democrats seeking to divide them.

We should ignore extremists like AntiFa and the KKK. We should ignore extremists, period. But we don't. We give them a soap box, no matter how reprehensible the crime. I believe this shapes your own personal partisan narratives where I believe both groups are two sides of the same shit pile. The Democrats want to downplay AntiFa's role because these idiots tend to espouse leftist ideology. Republicans are downplaying the murder in Charlottesville because they don't want to accept the fact that white supremacist morons tend to espouse the ideologies of the right. That's really the crux of the situation. The 'down and dirty' truth of the situation. It's the elephant in the room no one wants to address. On the entire scope of political issues, it's practically meaningless. But, the media uses it to narrate and sew division.

While battling Democratic politicians, President Trump has consistently tried to bring the American people together, but the Democrats have consistently tried to divide Americans.

While that is one take on the situation, however it's not entirely accurate. The Orange Virus is/was a real estate developer. Fact. The Orange Virus was the host of a network reality show. Fact. The Orange Virus' entire brand revolves around conflict. Division. The fact that you believe the current president wants unity is so laughable and so out of his element that you shouldn't expect to be taken seriously by most of the rational voting demographic for publicizing this tactic.
