1. Negativity.
To read any discussion amongst Tea Party supporters is to read screes of bile and venom the likes of which are rarely seen anywhere else. The Tea Party hate Obama, climate change scientists, illegal immigrants, Europe, socialists, liberals, centrists, welfare, universal health care, a free education system, Muslims, Palestinians, gun control supporters, Social Democrats - that is a lot of hate. Although I am sure Tea Party supporters will disagree, there is no left wing parallel for the sheer depth of contempt, arrogance and disgust the Tea Party manages to vomit up on a daily basis. Conservatives can are are capable of being for things. The Tea Party is not.

2. Being anti-science.
Attacking climate change science in 2014 is about as smart as claiming HIV is not linked to aids was in 2004. It's simply outdated. Moreso, it's embarassing. Being conservative does not have to mean being a dinosaur, or being bought by vested interests.

3. Being anti-economics.
The idea that a free market might actually result in trickle down died with Reagan. Actually, it died 10 years before him, and smart conservatives were quick to adapt to economic theories that might actually work. Reducing bureaucracy and being pro-business does not mean embracing concepts that we all know do not work and never did.

4.Being bought.
Tea Party statements concerning gun control look as if they were written by the NRA. That's because they were. For all the attacks on the Obama administration for jumping into bed with lobbyists and vested interests - and many of those accusations are valid and correct - no one is in a weaker position to judge than the Tea Party, who appear to parrot whatever they are told to parrot by their own mentors and beneficiaries.

That's very nice, Old School!!!

There is some truth in that, too.

When the Tea Party first came on to the scene I had thought that they might actually present a more positive, more cutting edge of conservatism that the GOP seemed to have lost. Certainly I had thought they might offer some new solutions. But these days they seem to be so stuck in whining mode that there isn't a lot of space for anything positive to see the light of day.

The tea party was commandeered by the GOP to be their attack dogs. The GOP let the tea partiers make all the stupid, conspiratorial rants so - hopefully - none of the crap would slosh back on the Republicans.

They've never been anything more than useful idiots.
