How many decades now has Ireland been a divided country. And why? Because of religion, basically. Religion is the dividing force among people. Has been since ancient times. Nothing, in that regard, really changes. That's no doubt why we were always told to never discuss religion or politics. Sage advice, indeed.
 
Because the North can see that it will be the end of the protestants in Ireland as the Provo's exact their "revenge" on the population. If they wanted to live under a Catholic regime they could have moved to the south and struggled, but that would mean giving up their British handouts and welfare. So no we don't want a united Ireland as it will mean just another hell hole of terrorism and extremist violence
