It seems it was just another scheme to keep Jews isolated so they couldn't "harm" other nations. I think there was also talk of settling them in Africa. The poor wretches who died in the camps would have been overjoyed to go ANYWHERE ELSE. No nation on earth wanted them and though most knew what was happening, they weren't willing to try to stop it. Once the war began in earnest, there was no way to stop it until Germany was defeated.

I'm less concerned with THAT Holocaust than with the one just ahead. If Iran, Russia, and Turkey get their way, the Jews of Israel will be killed in greater numbers than the 6 million of the 1940s. The old familiar hatred is rising again and Israel has a very hard choice coming very soon.

Very odd

Was it called , “ the frozen chosen “ ??

"Snow Jews." They would have made one hell of a hockey team.

There were a lot different places Jews wanted to settle, especially a couple in South America, one sponsored by the wealthy Jew who built the Orient Express railroad. There was another in Peru; Israel was a choice for Russian Jews fleeing the Tsars pogroms in the 1870's; not all Jews wanted to settle in the ME, most of the Zionists were not religious n any case; most of the Orthodox and ultra-Orthodox weren't supporters of 'Zionism' in the first place, it was mostly labor Zionists and 7 other main groups, mostly political groups that ended up being persuaded to move to Israel. The aftermath of WW II and many Jews still being kept on the concentration camps by 1947 made Israel the best option at the time for many survivors.

Many were racists, many still are, and self-segregated, same as they did for the previous 2,000 years. It's a myth that Da Evul Xians forced them to live in ghettoes; Jews demanded separate sections for themselves, than a few centuries began sniveling about over-crowded and demanding they be given other peoples' neighborhoods, then sniveling when nobody gave a shit about their demands.

This wasn't a new thing; Swedes and Lombards and the Hanseatic Leagues had their own compounds and ghettoes, too, they just didn't incessantly snivel about it and make up silly fake histories over it.

Left wing historians are careful to protect FDR's legacy. Can you imagine an administration getting away with turning a ship load of refugees away and sending them back to their doom?

Rubbish red herrings are the FDR basher's standard claims. We had immigration quotas on all nationalities, and FDR loosened them just for Jews, who by the way weren't the on;y Germans needing a safe haven. We already took in millions of European refugees, especially Jews, for decades, not to mention a major Depressin is a bd time to flood a country with refugees, but you wouldn't care about that, it's all about bashing FDR for beating your Jap and Nazi heroes in the world war they started.

We can note you remain in America despite your being pissed off we won both world wars.

FDR managed to turn a recession into a soup line depression in two terms and they use that as an excuse to turn away a ship full of Jewish refugees. It wasn't an immigration issue, these 900 Jews were desperate to flee Nazi Germany in 1939 while Nazis were rounding up Jews for concentration camps but FDR was in a declining state of health and was ill-informed or wasn't interested. You almost have to laugh that today more than 900 illegal aliens come across the border weekly. 80 years later anybody who dares to criticize FDR will still be labeled a Jap lover or a Nazi. Things haven't changed much.

Actually the economy was tanking under Hoover, and turned around withing months of FDR's election, and by 1937 was back to pre-Depression levels, with a short recession due to the Supreme Court battles, and kept climbing even higher, which is why he was elected four times. He didn't set up any 'concentration camps', and they were short term detentions that only affected west coast Japanese, and rightfully so, given that over a third of them were not citizens and most of them avidly cheered on the Japanese victories in Asia for many years, including holding parades and sending care packages to Japanese troops. Some resident Japanese in Hawaii helped a downed Japanese pilot acquire weapons and tried to organize an uprising among Hawaiian Japanese as well. Then there is the fact that Japan sent spy recruiters to the U.S. to try and recruit saboteurs and spies throughout the 1930's, and not a single Japanese American reported these efforts to the American authorities.

FDR also enforced the immigration laws in place, so your sniveling over what is going on today is just dumb and pointless, especially given your whining about Jews, as if the U;S; suddenly became obligated to be the world's dumping ground yet again for European and Asian failures. Make up your mind which you want to support; the U.S. had already taken in several million Jewish refugees, far more then the rest of the world combined.

No Pity Party needed. FDR did the right thing at the moment, no matter how much you Jap and Nazi fans get pissed Japan and Germany lost the war.
