Rape insurance law goes into effect, tramples Michigan women's rights

Michigan lawmakers passed a controversial bill on Wednesday that will ban insurance plans in the state from covering abortion unless the woman’s life is in danger. The law, dubbed “rape insurance” legislation, will require residents who want health insurance coverage for abortions to purchase an extra policy, even in cases of rape and incest.

Michigan is an absolute hell hole. Really.

The fantastic thing about this is that wealthy women will be able to obtain an abortion no matter what happens. This nails all women that are not independently wealthy. All of this is an out of sight and out of mind game. These folks don't care about saving babies. They already know that it isn't going to stop women from trying to obtain abortions and putting themselves at great risk. It just makes them feel like they have done their part by forcing it underground. It's very sick.

To clarify, what it does is say that if you want abortion covered under your health plan, it has to be an extra, not part of the base plan.

It can't "ban" plans from covering abortion if it allows them to offer the coverage as an extra. What it does is removes it from the base coverage of insurance plans.

'Rape and incest' is redundant. Not all pregnancies because of incest were non-consensual, and when they are it's rape. Familiar status is moot, rape's rape.

But there's no war on women.

The Republican who said rape should be legal will love this.

Assholes.

Yet the measure is meant to protect those who opposition to abortion on conscience from having to pay for abortions. Those wishing to have abortion coverage would pay for it themselves through an addition to their policy.

the horror

The tangled webs Obamacare weaves.

If you like your insurance policy, you can keep your insurance policy.

Are you serious? There are degrees of trauma involved, and familial status adds extra and complex layers of horror to overcome. :banghead:
