I would have picked the "steele dossier in a river" for Patti Smith instead, but that's cool. *L*

I first saw Siouxie Sioux in a Wimpy bar (like a Macdonald's) in July 77 along Oxford Street. London. She came in looking very different from any other girl I'd seen until then, looked around, and walked out. Hadn't a clue who she was. I came out and made my way down to the Tottenham Court Rd and just off there was Wardour Str. and the Roxy Club. I'd been there the previous year to see the Sex Pistols who had blown me away - the power! The vitriolic lyrics and vocals of John Lydon and in such an enclosed space!
I knocked on a panel and a guy opened it and said "We don't open for another hour."
"I've come all the way from the North West!"
I think he thought I might be a journalist.
"Ok the band are about to do a soundcheck but you can sit in."
No sooner had I sat down than the band led by the girl I'd seen in the Wimpy bar entered the stage. The band Siouxie And The Banshees went straight into their set and they were playing entirely to me. Siouxie like the rest of the band occasionally glanced over at me no doubt wondering who the f*** I was. By the time she got to Hong Kong Garden she had completely relaxed and focused her gaze on me and came down off the stage strutting towards me. Halfway across the floor, the drummer stopped and then the band. "What's wrong Kevin?" said Siouxie turning to the drummer who was at the edge of the stage. He held up a broken base pedal. She returned to the stage. They fixed the pedal and continued.

A brilliant night!

The Undertones - My Perfect Cousin

Lyrics

Now I've got a cousin called Kevin
He's sure to go to heaven
Always spotless, clean and neat
The smoothest you can get them
He's got a fur lined sheepskin jacket
My ma said they cost a packet
She won't even let me explain
That me and Kevin were just not the same
Oh my perfect cousin
What I like to do, he doesn't
He's his family's private joy
His mother's little golden boy
He's got a degree in economics
Maths, physics and bionics
He thinks that I'm a cabbage
'Cause I hate University Challenge
Even at the age of ten
Smart boy Kevin was a smart boy then
He always beat me at Subbuteo
Cause he flicked the kick and I didn't know
Oh my perfect cousin
What I like to do, he doesn't
He's his family's private joy
His mother's little golden boy
His mother bought him a synthesizer
Got the Human League into advise her
Now he's making lots of noise
Playing along with the Art school boys
Girls try to attract his attention
But what a shame, it's in vain total rejection
He will never be left on the shelf
'Cause Kevin he's in love with himself
Oh my perfect cousin
What I like to do, he doesn't
He's his family's private joy
His mother's little golden boy

"Because The Night"

Take me now baby here as I am
Pull me close, try and understand
Desire is hunger is the fire I breathe
Love is a banquet on which we feed

Come on now try and understand
The way I feel when I'm in your hands
Take my hand come undercover
They can't hurt you now,
Can't hurt you now, can't hurt you now
Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to lust
Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to us

Have I doubt when I'm alone
Love is a ring, the telephone
Love is an angel disguised as lust
Here in our bed until the morning comes
Come on now try and understand
The way I feel under your command
Take my hand as the sun descends
They can't touch you now,
Can't touch you now, can't touch you now
Because the night belongs to lovers ...

With love we sleep
With doubt the vicious circle
Turn and burns
Without you I cannot live
Forgive, the yearning burning
I believe it's time, too real to feel
So touch me now, touch me now, touch me now
Because the night belongs to lovers ...

Because tonight there are two lovers
If we believe in the night we trust
Because tonight there are two lovers ...
