First day of new gun law leads to arrest » Top News » Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — On the first day of the new Georgia Safe Carry Protection Act, a misunderstanding between two armed men in a convenience store Tuesday led to a drawn firearm and a man’s arrest.

“Essentially, it involved one customer with a gun on his hip when a second customer entered with a gun on his hip,” said Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress.

At approximately 3 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a call regarding a customer dispute at the Enmark on the corner of Park Avenue and North Lee Street.

A man carrying a holstered firearm entered the store to make a purchase. Another customer, also with a holstered firearm, approached him and demanded to see his identification and firearms license, according to the Valdosta Police Department report.

The customer making demands for ID pulled his firearm from its holster but never pointed it at the other customer, who said he was not obligated to show any permits or identification.

He demanded the man’s ID again. Undeterred by the drawn gun, the man paid for his items, left the store and called for police.

...

The police chief said no one can demand a person to show their gun permit. Under the new law, he as police chief and his officers cannot demand to see a firearms permit, Childress said.

“This is an example of my concern with the new gun law that people will take the law into their own hands which we will not tolerate,” Childress said.

Like we didn't see this coming.

:lmao:

I would rather see open carry than concealed but -

this is one of the comments from the link -

The law is you can carry openly. That leads to two people carrying openly. One of the two, feeling entitled goes up to the other one who's openly carrying to ask if he has a right to openly carry. This leads to drawn gun inside a store and police called over two guys arguing with guns.

With no such laws, these two people would not be carrying openly.

Two things:

1. Why would an Open Carry person challenge another person for Open Carry? Like he doesn't know the Law?

2. If you are open carrying, then WHY do you need to pull out or unholster your weapon just because someone is being a douchebag? Like you don't know the Laws under THAT circumstance either?

I have CCW and I know the Laws in Pennsylvania and all surrounding States. I also know the Castle Doctrine (Stand yer Ground) Laws in my State (Updated in 2010) for both Day AND Night time hours. Yes they are different.

No, you morons predicted wholesale slaughter. Stop moving the goal posts idiot.

1. no one predicted this luddly liar

2. this incident had nothing to do with the law of open carry. it was simply one person being an asshole and he was properly dealt with my law enforcement.

Maybe we should take away the computers in those fifth floor hospitals that have bars on the windows.

This one truly does deserve to have their computer "rights" revoked.

Wait until someone innocent gets shot accidently or someone has their weapon taken and shot with it. What you see here is whats called in nature as a threat display. Very similar to a dog growling or a cat hissing. Its a fear response. People ecstatic over open carry are in fact frightened of the world around them. They need the weapon actually displayed so they can feel safe.
