I thought I would never live to see the day where a Pope and a Patriarch would oppose gay marriage.

It's not just them, its all the Hispanic voters lining up in the West who follow his word like the Gospel. But you already knew that.

A majority of Hispanic people support gay marriage and so does a majority of Catholics. But you already knew that and have choose to ignore that fact.

Gay marriage (the contractually-forced lack of either a father or mother for life) also matters to children. And children are the dominant legal entities in any contractual situation.

Except that none of your claims regarding marriage are actually part of our law. No law nor court recognizes the marriage of parents to create a minor contract for children. Nor does any law nor court recognize that children are third party beneficiaries to any marriage.

With the Supreme Court expliciting finding that the right to marry isn't conditioned on children or the ability to have them:

This does not mean that the right to marry is less meaningful for those who do not or cannot have children. Precedent protects the right of a married couple not to procreate, so the right to marry cannot be conditioned on the capacity or commitment to procreate.
