H.L. Mencken (born 1880 - died 1956) was a journalist, satirist, critic, and Democrat. He wrote this editorial while working for the Baltimore Evening Sun, which appeared in the July 26, 1920, edition:

"As democracy is perfected, the office of the President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be occupied by a downright fool and complete narcissistic moron."

Oh my, he foresaw Sarah Palin as President of the United States. Let's all hope he was wrong.

He did not know that it will come true less than in 100 years - in 2008 and then again, in 2012 ( which means that the electorate is not better)

I think we all know who is the Narcissist-in-Chief...

I first saw that quote years ago, applied to Dubya.

And it was equally fitting. I am sure that the next to fill those shoos will likely fit the description even better. The voting populous seems to be trying to drown idiocy with ever increasing piss poor choices.

downright fool and complete narcissistic moron."

You just described every single politician that ever lived.

What a silly thing to say. You malign a lot of great men that have served this country well...just to elevate the moron we have in the White House now.

That is basically the way Obamabots think. Obama can be considered great...if we just lower the bar.
