In 2014, voters reduced penalties for property and drug crimes. Two years later, they approved allowing earlier parole for most inmates.

Before the pandemic hit, the prison population had dropped to 117,00 inmates, the Associated Press reported this week. In the last year, 21,000 more have left state prisons — with about half being held temporarily in county jails.

Last year, California sped up the release of 3,500 inmates to reduce crowding as COVID-19 spread through prisons statewide, according to the Los Angeles Times. It freed 2,345 others early last July.

Get rid of democrats. They are the ones who let all of the criminals run around and do whatever they want with no recourse. If it weren't for them then we would have a better system in place to deal with crime.

Then we start telling young people "get a job and be a productive part of society or get out".

Close the border and make people work to become citizens.

After a solid year of that crime would go way down.

Of course it doesn't. $1000 means a whole lot more to someone struggling from paycheck to paycheck, so therefore having some sort of means based bail scaling system makes a whole lot of sense.

Dumbass learn how to read, 63,000 WAS NOT just released, 63,000 was made eligible for 1/3 reduction of term credits instead of 1/5 reduction credits previously.

$1000 bail for purposefully hitting someone with a vehicle, on someone with a loooong criminal record including several instances of violent crime is over the top crazy.
He paid the $1000 and killed 6 people that day. His original bail was $10,000, the court changed it to $1000 after reviewing his case. I am sure the virtue signalers felt good about themselves doing that.

wtf?? The purpose of bail is to prevent flight risk and ensure that the person returns for the court day, not prevent murder of people while on bail.

If the court reasonably suspected the person was a danger to others, no bail should have been allowed at all.
