A song from the 50's

The 1950's was not a particularly good decade for music. The record companies controlled everything, and like the 1990's - they churned out one cookie cutter song after another that sounded incredibly the same.
Having said that - there were some decent ones...this song was originally produced in 1933...but was made famous by The Platters in 1958.

haa That's the only group besides the Beatles my wife from Chile really likes. Her favorites are Charles Aznavour and Tito Fernandez.

Love Me Tender was another cookie cutter song of the 50's.

Elvis used the civil war song Aura Lea published in 1861 and just added new words to it. :)

Now Buddy Holly was a real artist. Was not controlled by the record companies despite their efforts. He looked like a little pushover nerd-kid. But in reality was a fiery hot tempered man that wrote/sang whatever he felt.
Unbeknownst to most, he was a good friend of Waylon Jennings, and created quite a stir wherever they went.
It was a major loss when Buddy died. WHo knows how much he would have influenced the genre.

I feel the same way about Jim Croce. When I was in high school, my class went on a field trip to the KZSU studio at Stanford Univ. I learned early about payola.
