A top U.S. official said the nation cannot process coronavirus tests as quickly, easily or in the same volume as other countries as the virus continues to spread across the U.S., and that’s “a failing.”

“The system is not really geared to what we need right now, what you are asking for. That is a failing,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told the House Oversight and Reform Committee on Thursday at a hearing on the nation’s preparedness for the outbreak.


“The idea of anybody getting it easily the way people in other countries are doing it, we’re not set up for that. Do I think we should be? Yes. But we’re not,” Fauci testified.

And the new "strategy" will be to try to quarantine in areas where people appear symptomatic, and try and treat/keep as many people as possible outside of brick and mortar hospitals where there are real ICUs. Unfortunately, Trump is STILL not assisting that, it places like NY and Calif are left looking for places they can put temp hospital beds if they have to

Not flowing why everyone needs to be tested. I've never been tested for the flu but have had it many times and with basic common sense hygiene manage to not infect my family. If you have flu like symptoms that are mild enough to not need medical attention just self quarantine for 2 weeks.

I'm sure in a few weeks Amazon will have an army of drones ready to drop of test or whatever those in quarantine need.

My question to you is this...does the system have the “gear” we need? put another way...I can believe that the system isn’t set up for rapid results testing...can the system be shifted into high gear just like that?

Our state just got its own test equipment so it could take over from the national CDC. As more states do that, maybe CDC will be able to speed up?

Yeah, but what does that one know, with his expertise being "pandemic" - or anemic, or whatever?

Had Trump had the White House Pandemic Response Team, they might have told him that, in order to halt, or at least slow down, the spread, it is absolutely mandatory that testing be at least one step ahead of it. And that means both kits and the laboratory capacity. That was foreseeable in January at the latest. And then Trump and his minions brought us the happy news, in March, that they are finally starting to get kits delivered, and, as it turned out, there is nowhere the laboratory capacity available to get the tests done in a timely fashion.

What a snafu.
