The massacre took place almost 30 years ago, but the CCP has done a pretty effective job of keeping it quiet and smothering mass demonstrations. There was a very large gathering in HK, but the media lid was kept pretty tight.

Of course. Every year since, the government has been afraid that commemorations will become the pretext for renewed protest. Maintaining power is the CCP's only real priority.
