Okay, I'll bite, what happened? Seems okay to me. Kind of screwed up but it always has been. So, what happened to it, specifically?

I guess your right. Nothing "happened," persay. It's always been a country dominated by the wealthy who mold policy to fit their agendas. It has the highest murder rates in the world. Is engage in imperialist adventurism as evidenced by it's military bases in all corners of the world. Lobbyists dictate policy drowning out the voices of people who literally have no say. It continues to pollute the environment than any other country on Earth. It continues to spend more money on weapons than nearly the rest of the world combined. It just killed hundreds of thousands of people in Iraq. It continues to support horrible dictators throughout the world, including the despicable Saudi governemnt, a prime cause of terrorism towards the Untied States. It is a country where the word labor means communist. It is a country that has the largest prison population in the world by far, more than China, mainly targeting young African Americans. From the right to the left we see politics infiltrated by ultra rich power who continue to exacerbate our inequalities in wealth and outsource our jobs to countries to so poor they will work for anything. Countries that are in large part poor because whenever they attempt and independent path a CIA coup replaces them. (Some estimates say that the US has initiated over a thousands Coups since 1900.) It is by far the most obese country on Earth inhaling processed filth. It's policies increase the likelihood of nuclear war. It's not the worlds policeman. It is the world's bully. For the benefit of the wealthy who run this country and by default the world.
