The poverty rates in the South are caused by the same things that cause poverty in the North, East, and West; liberalism. Some ignorant person will point out that many of the most poverty stricken cities are in red states but the reason for that is simple; the Republicans who control the state cannot over-ride the federal laws and policies (liberal) that are causing the poverty. Every time they try, it gets shot down by the liberal courts or they get sued by the Feds.
Nobody is stopping the south from banning or better regulating casino gambling, except for your Somalia's economy, republican politicians.

The fact is that Casino Gambling has little to do with poverty.
Then why is it, that in all 3 major gambling towns in America, the poverty rate is so high ?
In Atlantic City the unemployment rate is high, the poverty rate is high, the quality of the schools are low, and the other types of resorts there like the Steel Pier are high risk areas ?
First of all, because a job in a casino is a bad one, it isn't a steady economy, on one hand, if the players lose they become poor (which happens most often), and that raises the crime rate, and of course the poverty rate and the unemployment, because they cant afford to support the economy.
and on the other hand, if the players win, the casino's workers are unemployed, which is a high percentage of the job market in gambling towns.

And they are all democrat strongholds, go figure.
Facts : a Republican is cutting regulation on casino gaming in Atlantic City causing massive poverty, and a Casino owner is the front runner on the Republican ticket.
