We used to have a scrap metal company that would take anything without question resulting in a massive uptick of metal thefts. They just hoped to get it processed before the cops showed up looking for it---guardrails, bronze plaques from tombstones, stop signs.....anything metal they would take. Once it shutdown because the the owners went to federal prison for loan fraud, the surge in thefts stopped. They were forging docs to get millions in loans they couldn't afford to pay back so they really were no better than the dregs who would steal metal off freaking graves.
