Second, when people say that someone who turns out to be a murderer, like this Houston guy, is 'another responsible gun owner,' what we mean is that up until the time he starts blowing people away, everyone thought/assumed he was a 'responsible gun owner.' That's where all these murderers come from, the ranks of those heralded as 'responsible gun owners,' which they appear to be until they become murderers

It seems to me that this is not a issue that solely lies with guns or their ownership. It is a very complicated issue that involves guns, mental health, and law enforcement's responsibilities. This guy had a restraining order on him. He was a gun owner. He obviously has a mental rage that has not been defined yet.

The 2nd Amendment says you have the right to bear arms. Even if that is a whole shitload of weapons or just 1 weapon, it is both allowed.

As someone who used to carry a duty piece I advise people to get rid of their weapons. It puts our minds into a constant state of hyper-vigilance where we're assessing every stranger as threat or no threat. And that's no way to live. Should be viewing strangers as potential friends, not potential threats we have to kill.

There are legit reasons to have access to a weapon, but generally speaking when we do, chances are any occasion to use them was of our own making. I'm not going to spend the next 40+ years of my life thinking of the poor guy I killed for trying to take something of mine. I don't own anything that important and would just as soon offer to show them something from the back instead.

I agree, shooting someone over a pizza seems a bit much.

But I think instinct is to question everyone as a threat but assume the best. In other words a guy wearing a uniform would be considering much less of a threat then a guy wear a hoodie. Both are evaluated for risk until proved otherwise. Just like would happen if we were placed in a jungle where we didn't know the risks.

The reason we have the right to bear arms in the first place is to protect our country from our own government and foreign invaders, take them away and we have a much lower chance of preventing something like the Nazi takeover of Germany, they are TOOLS and should be treated as such, and all responsible gun owners realize this.

If guns are taken away, people with psychological issues will still have the ability to drive their cars into crowds, or use a knife to injure or kill, as was the case in southern California, and China.

Lack of proper mental health care is the real issue here.
