I had the pleasure of meeting Peter Buck several years ago. He was playing on tour for Robyn Hitchcock and they were at a small local pub quietly eating in a corner before the gig. He was very approachable and down to earth.

REM was a very influential group

They were kind of a transition from punk to alternative music and Michael Stipe is a hell of a songwriter.
