That was 2014...... Just thought you might want to know....... And the article gives no reason why the ambulance took 30 minutes to arrive, don't you think that's kind of strange that the reason wasn't reported?
I go to the Raymond G Murphy VAMC where this happened, for the most part I've had very good and fairly quick service.
The biggest problem with the VA is Congress using the VA as a political football, AOC isn't helping and the fact that the VA and medical facilities all over the country are facing a severe shortage of primary care providers. There's just not enough Doctors, PAs and NPs to go around.

And specialist are in short supply.

A veteran and his family should be able to go to the hospital of their choosing with the VA being the bill paying service.

Apparently you missed the part where there is a current long term shortage of
PCPs and specialists. Not just in the VA and not just here in the US but world wide. That doesn't make it socialist it just makes it one of the many competitors for limited resources.
There is the bureaucracy associated with VA much as the same "bureaucracy" in the private insurance field. The PCP makes a treatment decision then the private insurance want's to know; "was step A,B,C thru Z followed first? If not the insurance won't pay for it, same with the VA, the government regs covering the VA do exactly the same thing. Doesn't necessarily make it socialist..... unless one only sees black and white........ All the government is doing is using the insurance industry's requirements, if that makes it socialist then so be it.

Any vet who is defending AOC's ludicrous, insulting claim either (1) has been lucky enough to get good and timely care from the VA (unlike many others) and/or (2) is willing to betray his fellow vets rather than admit that the VA does a very bad job serving a huge number of vets. In all the times I have had to use private medicine, I have never, ever, ever encountered the kind of red tape and incompetence that I've encountered with the VA. Go check out veterans message boards and see their opinions on AOC's claim.
