Any immigration discussion should start with how crucial illegals have been to our economy and what would be the result of deporting them. A few years ago Alabama tried to make immigration a state law enforcement priority. We all bear the blame for wanting to have jobs that would actually keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. The reason that kind of situation occurs goes back to FDR. To get his new deal thru the Dixiecrats in Congress he had to agree to excempt blacks from certain wage laws and other related programs. Later after WWII the agri business got the same idea for farm workers, then in the latter part of the 20th century the tech companies did the same with H1-B. We had a guest worker program that went out the door because of LBJ in the late 1960's and then we get sanctuary cities from the 1965 Civil RIghts act. Of course the GOP bears a good part of the burden as well for this mess by doing nothing about it for the most part.
