What a good Communist. We all know how accountable and efficient the government is, so let's take more of your money by force.

From a 1981 NYT article:

For the kickoff of the 40th annual Chittenden County United Way fund-raising drive in Burlington, Vt., the sponsors considered themselves fortunate to have as guests Mayor Bernard Sanders of Burlington and Gov. Richard Snelling of Vermont. . .

I don’t believe in charities,” said Mayor Sanders, bringing a shocked silence to a packed hotel banquet room. The Mayor, who is a Socialist, went on to question the ”fundamental concepts on which charities are based” and contended that government, rather than charity organizations, should take over responsibility for social programs.

Under a true Democratic society where the rich paid high taxes and the poor benefited from it charities would not even be necessary. 'Course the most fortunate among us would not be hiding their profits in off shore accounts to avoid being taxed.

Ironic given he wants to turn this nation into a charity
No, he thinks were all too stupid to survive without the benevolence of Government

Unfortunately he's half right.
The can do rugged individual that America was built on is becoming an endangered species.

Half the nation is cowering in safe places

We need to raise the voting age to 25.
I better solution is anyone who votes Democrat should be the only ones paying for these handouts.

That would change the election in a micro-second.

Of course he doesn't believe in charities, what ole Bernie wants is to confiscate money at the point of a gub'mint gun, allow politicians, bureaucrats and the well connected interest groups to take their cut off the top and then to use what's left to buy votes with. Some (delusional) people actually think this is okay as long it's somebody else being robbed since it allows them to feel altruistic even though it does nothing to actually help the poor.

Gub'mint worshiper "charity" is functionally no different than we call extortion when done by Mafioso's with guns.

I love grocery shopping in socialist countries, makes shopping so simple.
