The parents are ultimately responsible. If they don't like the public school, they can send their child to a private school or homeschool them. If they fail to educate them, it then becomes the state's responsibility.

I made over $300 a day. That's about $50.00 an hour. Now, I will sit back and soak up my retirement while working in a low stress job of my choosing.

IMO memorization (especially of times tables) is a better way to go but Common Core lays the foundation for higher math and stresses equations. I think the kids bright enough to learn both memorization and using equations (common core) will be light years ahead. I have experience with my 9-year old granddaughter helping her with math. Common core is a different approach to math that's all. I think all math methods should be taught.

I agree, but I am teaching my kid the traditional method and showing her how it applies to her common core math. She gets it.
