I understand your objection if that is your real objection. I totally agree it does not address nut balls that simply want to hurt or kill others. There is no 100% way to deal with that. 100% background checks on all sale or trade, or passing weapons outside the immediate family would help and would no inconvenience me or normal people is society enough to worry about. I am totally background checked state and federal and am a licensed carrier. I follow the law, believe in the law and have no problem with law enforcement and never have. That said, I carry concealed have no intention to open carry, and especially not open carry a rifle on the streets. It has no place or purpose being allowed on the streets. I have no problem with police identifying a guy in a parking lot with his AR as the bad guy and ordering him to place it on the ground and back away. It is not a matter of self defense, personal defense or defense of the country against all enemies foreign and domestic. If the nut balls want to change (as you say) to arson, toxics, explosives than they would just have to. That is not the issue. Mind you, I like the basic AR-15 platform and an building one now. I will place order for an upper and sights tomorrow morning to complete it. I look forward to taking it to the range after completion, but the range and the house is where it belongs.Banning ownership would be wrong. Banning from places other than your own property or weapons ranges or hunting areas if they are allowed is another matter. We really do need to get AR-15 type weapons off the streets and out of the parking lots, but I enjoy shooting them on the range and believe you should be able to have anything you choose in your own home and on your property to defend your home and family all the way to the property line.
I see what you have in mind, but it still misses the main point, which is why do people even want to harm others?
That is what needs to addressed, not the means by which they decide to carry it out.
We can never stop the means, because they can easily just switch to arson, toxics, explosives, etc., which would be even worse because they would not have to get caught in the process.
If people even want to harm others, there is something wrong we should want to fix, not just cover it up with a bandaid.
