When the shipping companies that run the world's commerce start laying people off, you know it's bad.

I'm sure climate change and Trump are behind this...somehow, even though the CEO of UPS made up some bogus story about soft demand and higher labor costs. ;)

Seasonal layoffs. Christmas is over , too much competition. Wise business decision , must remain competitive.
 
They suck just like Fed Ex, I am surprised they have not gone bankrupt as shitty as their service is.
 
And still the economy turned in record employment. It’s almost as if a one off company announcement has zero meaning for the grander market. Hmmm.
Record employment was in 2000 when the participation rate was 5% higher than it is today, not that the grander market cares about anything other than today's profits.

UPS has gotten really expensive to use. We get a high-volume discount at work and most of the garbage out papers we send costs in the mid-$30's to 2 day. Not that long ago it was in the single digits.
