If you earn more, you pay more.

That’s the basic idea behind sweeping changes proposed by California’s three largest power companies that will impact your electricity bill.

  • Households earning less than $28,000 a year would pay a fixed charge of $15 - $24 a month.
  • Households with annual income from $28,000 – $69,000 would pay $20 - $30 a month.
  • Households earning from $69,000 – $180,000 would pay $51 - $73 a month.
  • Those with incomes above $180,000 would pay $85 - $128 a month.

people with low incomes suck a lot of electricity in ignorance and waste......they will abuse this and make it a mess

To paraphrase Biden: "If you don't vote for Biden, you ain't a moron". Democrats seem to rely on plain old stupidity, greed, tribalism, perversion and the WORSE angels of our mercies. It seems to be a formula that works...Promise the moon, deliver nothing, Things get worse, promise the moon, deliver nothing...rinse wash repeat.

california is a socialist shithole

Democrats can't fix anything, it's against their nature to actually do something practical. It means making hard choices that might offend. So instead, they sit on the moralistic philosophical fence and equivocate. Trans and illegal aliens are just people! Democrats are the perfect example of the Peter principle. And what happens when a community is run by spineless cowards in committees that are afraid to piss off the lowest common denominator.

Doesn't sound like they would be generating the amount needed.

sounds like a very fair plan. Look at your electric bill, average out your monthly $$, then compare it to the chart based on income.

California ranks fourth on the list of states with the most expensive electricity rates.
For comparison, my rate would be a bargain. I would gladly trade my bill for $73 a month.

I just read about this on Yahoo

No wonder people are leaving California.
The left are slowly but surely incentivizing mediocrity and the lack of personal and professional growth.

Wind Turbines and Solar Panels destroy our standard of living.

California has 12 to 20 people living in one apartment, simply because of how expensive politicians have made the cost of living.

With a $128.00 maximum electric bill, the state must be planning to subsidize all its citizen's electric bills. When I lived in relatively cool Ventura a few years ago, my average electric bill was a hundred dollars a month and I had no air conditioning and conserved as much power as I was able. This insane system will actually encourage wasteful electrical usage.

encourages rich folks to but solar panels i guess
The MAXIMUM electric bill for a rich person would be $128.00 that's far below what they are spending now. California electricity isn't cheap, the average cost in California per kilowatt hour is $15.34, the national average is $11.88.

So if I make 180k and more a year, I only pay a fixed amount of $128/mo? Sign me up! I honestly wonder what they mean by "fixed" amount because I can see people just leaving their electricity running all day and night because they don't need to pay more than the fixed amount every month. Great idea though, but they need to set limits so if ppl go over a certain amount of electricity they'll pay a large surcharge.

Just have different electric tariffs based on income. So a low wage household gets a cheaper kWh electric tariff than a higher income household. Then people still have control over how much electric they wish to save or waste.

Is electric expensive in California because of renewables?
