Can pristine longevity, alone, make a player the GOAT of his sport?

And 1976-'99 was that deadly low-post play era ... the real trenches ... like an NFL game's line of scrimmage when the ball is hiked ... so Jabbar longevity is complimented by that. I think I might have to reevaluate Lebron with respect to Jabbar.

Thanks for adding that. You finally dropped some laudable scholarship here.

Still waiting for you to do the same. :)

I already did.

Here's one memorable example...

:5_1_12024:
Eye test, Jordan.

You forgot a few things that our eyes saw

Better teammate... Lebron

Had to retire for 1.5yrs in '93, to get reenergized... Jordan

Better jump shooter... Lebron

Better 3pt shooter... Lebron

Better shot-blocker... Lebron

Better at physically fighting his own teammates... Jordan

Better passer... Lebron

Smarter player... Lebron

Took seven (7) years to finally make it to an NBA Finals... Jordan

Better rebounder... Lebron

Better floor general... Lebron

Had to retire, again, for 1.5yrs in '98 to get reenergized... Jordan

Barely avg 20pts per game in his 16th season... Jordan

Did avg 25/7/7 in his 16th seasons... Lebron

Better assists man... Lebron

Only the 2nd player in NBA history, to lead his teams to eight (8) straight NBA Finals... not Jordan :5_1_12024:

Lebron is not eligible to be the g.o.a.t.

Jordan was the best ever, not because of stats but because of determination and an unwillingness to be stopped when it mattered the most.

Jordan was the best ever ... because of determination and an unwillingness to be stopped when it mattered the most.

This thread is about longevity that is pristine but nonetheless ... a determined Jordan still did in fact get stopped, when it mattered most, if you accept the truth and the reality of his failures from 1985-'90 and in 1995 and from 2001-'03.

It took Jordan 7 years to win his first NBA championship...so what do you name the results of his first 6 years, since you say he was not stopped?

Coming into his own.

Jordan in his prime was NOT stopped...and 95 was when he was headfucked from baseball and his father

Thank you, for admitting that Jordan was in fact stoppable in ways people like to forget.

Soccer Tennis and basketball might share one thing, on the pro level. And that being how those sports' greatest, most-commanding active players, are old farts. lol

Soccer currently has two (2) such players IMHO then the ATP likely has at least three, and the NBA has ... Lebron

This season makes seventeen (17) consecutive seasons that Lebron has played at an elite/All-NBA or All-Star level.

Did Michael Jordan accomplish that? Kobe? Wilt? Russell? Kareem? I think Lebron might be alone in this category. Should that make him the GOAT?

lebron NEVER WON anywhere that he didn't have elite players making his job easier.

he always needed help.

Those other guys carried teams on their backs to championships.

Jordan is the goat. Lebron has choked on way too many occasions.

Jordan always needed help but he always refused it, at first, and that's why he got beat all of time from 1985-'90..

Then from 1991-1998 those other guys helped carry those teams on their backs to championship threshold where Jordan would then come take them over the finish line.

Longevity is not an opinion nor is it, subjectivity, but the idea of who chokes is certainly a subjective reality.

if you and me and lebron and m.j. met on the court and had a pick-up game lebron would be a captain and would pick m.j. to be on side.

he has been given the right to form his own teams with the best players of his own choice.

...lebron would .... form his own teams with the best players of his own choice.

Yes. He learned that from watching Jordan do it (1995-1998) to win his second 3peat

How did Jordan do that?
by being the goat.

They traded to get Rodman, no free agent. They signed Sally after he was cut by the expansion team Toronto. But you couldn’t move around like they do today.

How did Jordan do that?

Same way that Lebron did it.

Yes think about how you sat in front of your device, outraged, watching on 09 JUL 2010 as Lebron teamed up with 2 other superstars/creating a superteam to win NBA Finals. Oh but our hypocrisy kept us, silent, when 3 superstars yes 3 first-ballot HOF players came together to create a superteam from 1995-1998 yes to win 3 straight nba championships.

The doublestandard. Yes. That is the sole reason why Jordan is still put on the same level as Lebron.
