• Microsoft founder Bill Gates on Saturday said that Covid-19 medication and future vaccines should be distributed to people who need them the most and not to "the highest bidder."
• "We need leaders to make these hard decisions about distributing based on equity, not just on market-driven factors," Gates said during a remote Covid-19 conference hosted by the International AIDS Society.
• The World Health Organization said that 21 candidate vaccines are currently in clinical trials being tested on human volunteers, three of which are in the third phase of those trials.

Gate's point is that once a vaccine is made available, there will be a huge demand for it....and production capacity will not be able to keep up with demand initially. Hence the worry of selling to the highest bidder (really, watch Contagion) and passing over poor and minority populations. And I'm sorry, where did Trump say this?

But one type of investment “surprised” Gates “because — unlike investing in a new vaccine or technology, the success rate is very high,” he says. “It’s what people in the global-health business call ‘financing and delivery.’”

Gates explains that buying medical supplies and getting them where they’re needed can be difficult and dangerous because they often are needed in “remote villages and war zones.”
