Can the USA ever be United again?

We can fix this country, but only if we get people into national office who desire to fix the divisions within this great nation. That means that we desperately need to oust the liberal/socialists, in both major parties, who are creating the divisions.

We need to go back to teaching constitutional government in public schools so that young people understand why the government was set up as it was, and why it is important to return to that formula.

We need to repeal the seventeenth amendment, and return the senators to their obligations to individual state legislatures. We need another amendment that limits representatives to no more than four terms in the House of Representatives. We need another amendment that would forbid state and federal governments from classifiing citizens by their racial/ethnic backgrounds, and would forbid any government entity from treating citizens differently based upon their racial/ethnic backgrounds.

When one reads the various threads on this message board, listens to the media, listens to the rhetoric coming out of DC, it becomes a real concern whether this country has become so divided politically and philosophically that it may not ever be united again.

we have always had different ideas, but we have always been able to find the common ground and go forward as Americans with a common purpose. I do not see that happening today.

Thoughts, comments.
No, that bird has flown with the onset of multiculturalism. Unity demands a common identity and as long as that is no longer demanded as what it is to be American, it cannot endure.

So what do we do? The current divisions are destroying us. Do we break up the country? What is the answer?

I agree. The current divisions are, indeed, destroying us. The logical outcome is tyranny. These politicians will NEVER allow the people to rise up - it would endanger their ability to continue to get rich - so yes, it's coming.

The middle class is being systematically destroyed and that will leave the very rich - and the very poor. The rest will be easy. The poor are easily controlled. Ask anyone who lived in the USSR and listen to them as they tell us that the United States is headed down that same path.

Frankly, I'm glad that I'm an old man. I won't live to see it. Tragically, however, my Grandchildren probably will. And they will blame their grand parents for allowing this country to fall. And they will hate us for our stupidity.

The Us has never been truly united, maybe more so in the early part of the 1940's, but the far left politicians have been doing a lot of damage to the country and need the divide in order to conquer and stay in power.

No I don't see it happening. Not even with another civil war.

I think if we were having a civil war we would be the exact opposite of united.

Now if there was an outside attack, possibly.

We could be united to if the Spirit of the Lord united us. But I think that would also take alot of work on our part

I dont think we need to break up the country if we can restore power to the states. A Convention of States may be the solution.

Other than that, I see us fighting and killing. I don't want that in the slightest.

The only other alternative is Divine help

Good post, you and I are on the same page. It really hurts me to think of the mess that we are leaving our kids and grandkids. It hurts me to watch my great country be destroyed by the evil forces of the left. It hurts me to watch God be removed from our national conscience. It hurts me to see the corruption and lying that is commonplace in DC. It hurts me to see our media become an arm of one party that suppressed disent and debate.

I am mad as hell and will not be silenced. I only hope that there are a lot more of us.

not at all. the USA has always had differing viewpoints on many issues. But, we were all in agreement that we had the greatest country in history and would do whatever it took to keep it great and strong. Even though we had different religions, cultures, races, and incomes: we were all americans.

Now, there is a contituency that does not like the country, its history, or what it stands for. They want to bring the USA down because they believe in the flawed premise that when one country is successful, others must be made unsuccessful.

The hate-america constituency is mostly liberals and democrats, with obama as their current leader.

Excuse me?

When, exactly, did everyone agree on that? When, exactly, did it stop?

If you can't answer those questions you really need to reconsider your premise.

Are you claiming that a majority of americans did not think that this was the greatest country in history? Are you also claiming that that is the case today?

No, I am saying that you are wrong. People today feel exactly the same way about this country as they always did. There are a few people who like to pretend that this country is evil, but they are no where near a majority today. My guess is that they are just about the same percentage as they always have. They just have the ability to get their message out now.

We all know that USA is united now

Really? is that why congress has not been able to get anything done? Is that why there is so much partisan hate filling the internet and TV? Is that why obama has said he will rule by dictate?

explain how we are united in a common cause at this period in time.

I blame it all on the "fair share", "inequality" "redistribution", "class warfare" "rich vs poor" socialist/commie rhetoric coming out of Ruler Obabble. He' has everyone looking at one another wondering "how did he get that...and I gotta get me some" useless bullshit. Create jobs...reduce strangulating gov interference in the free market...and most of all...vote the dumbasses out.

My son was born to a mother in a country with a common identity. That was the best I could do. I hope that the countries of Central and East Europe will avoid the impending calamity of the rest of the West.

I didn't serve 4 years, six months for what my Country has become. I'm 70 and in many ways I'm glad I don't have to face what my grandkids are facing! Obama is a Tyrant and should be treated as such! But alas! the color of his skin is his armor!

I have to be completely honest here because this subject is something that has bothered me for some time now. Ever see a little kid go near a hot stove? You (being the good parent) tell the kid - "don't touch that, it will burn you" and, for a while, the kid listens. However, sooner or later, the kid is going to touch the hot stove and get burned. He HAS to do it. I guess it's part of the learning process. Hot stove = finger burnt.

I fail to understand the left these days. I have to believe that they have the intellectual capability to understand that this country simply CAN NOT go on like it currently is - we are destined for disaster - yet, they are either too stupid to understand, or they celebrate the demise of America. They actually seem to relish this "race to the bottom" and it perplexes the hell out of me.

Are they so insanely jealous of those who achieve success that they would watch their future and their children's future simply vanish and be relegated to cheap history books? They stand back and applaud a man who has accomplished nothing in his 5 years in office other than to divide us and paint those who achieve as "the bad guys". In other words - class warfare.

They ignore the great wealth amassed by those on the left - while denigrating those on the right. They rejoice in those who are "taking" from the government while they dismiss those who actually "work". They point to more government "control" over the people while they demonize those who speak out against an out-of-control government; calling their Mothers and Fathers "tea baggers" because they would DARE to speak out against this slow death.

They despise anything "patriotic" and anything associated with "God and Country" and they embrace every perversion under the sun. They have attempted to run into the ground, anything remotely connected to "God" - and demand that "religion" take a backseat to "government". After all - to the left - government is THE answer - not God. Their secular humanism knows no limits. Just as in the days of Stalin.

I know that I am old. I get that. However, "old" doesn't mean "stupid". We are living in dangerous times. I haven't felt this uneasy about this country - ever. I lived through Viet nam. I lived through riots. I have lived through impeachments and threats of impeachments. I lived through assassinations and attempted assassinations. I have lived through great presidents and horrible presidents. I have lived through inflation and high unemployment. I lived through recession, gas wars, oil embargoes and long gas lines.

But one thing always remained strong about this country - hope. And every time we were beginning to be counted out - we came back.

I wish to hell that I believed that "America's best days were ahead of it" - but I know better. The current crop of people that are representing us are incompetent and, more importantly, are out for themselves.

The left in this country are no longer "patriots". They are Marxists, Communists and fascists. They have been brought up to believe that America is inherently bad and must be "brought down a peg".

Unfortunately, they fail to understand that THEY are America. It's THEIR futures and their children's future that they are seeking to destroy. So, go ahead and keep touching that hot stove. Hopefully, by the time you are able to figure it out - it won't be too late.

If we want to unify the united states, we need to start with our families and friends. We don't have to agree on anything, but we need to be united with love and civility. We need to stop taking disagreements personally. Just because someone disagrees with us doesn't mean we need to insult that person. It doesn't mean we have to hate them. It just means we don't agree on one matter.

In his early days, George Washington got into a disagreement with someone. Apparently that man got so angry with Washington that he punched Washington. Washington apologized to the man he punched for getting him so upset. And they became life long friends.

Can you do that? Think of the person who annoys you the most on this board. Imagine that you argue so much they hit you. Can you forgive them and apologize to them? If not, I don't think you are ready to be united with them.

If that's the case, maybe we should just start uniting with people we can be like that with.

Things have been pretty much the same, until now. Now the people no longer have the same values, no longer hold the same traditions, no longer celebrate the same holidays or agree on the same national heroes. We are divided on every level.

This is why conservatism is the only barrier to unity;

people who are incapable of finding common ground and cause with others because they cannot tolerate the fact that they won't celebrate only the holidays conservatives want to permit them.

Liberalism is just as much of a barrier to unity as conservatism. Liberal unity is everyone should be liberal and have liberal goals and ideals. If that's unity, conservatives should reject such unity where ever it is.

Whenever a liberal whines about "divisiveness" and demands that we unite, what he means is that you are to drop your goals and your ideals and "unite" under his goals and his ideals. It's nothing more than a demand for hegemony.

Never assume liberal rhetoric is benign. It always has a sinister purpose.

The country has been infiltrated by those who hold nothing but contempt for her; they hate God - Cloward and Piven strategy!
