Couer d'Alene, Idaho: In broad daylight on November 30, 2011, Tim Patterson heard a woman shrieking in a nearby parking lot. When he ran over, he found the woman struggling with a hooded man over her purse, and he had a knife to her throat. Patterson pulled out his gun and shouted, 'Drop it, or I'll shoot.' The hooded suspect dropped the knife, put his hands up, and then fled. Patterson had a concealed carry permit for his handgun. Sgt. Christie Wood called Patterson's actions brave, but she also cautioned about civilians getting involved in crime prevention.

Nick Meli was at the Clackamas Town Center when a gunman open fired in the food court. Meli, who has a concealed carry permit, positioned himself behind a pillar. He said the gunman appeared to spot him and that afterward, Meli heard only one more shot, and suspects it was the one the gunman used to kill himself.

Charlie Blackmore was driving home from work when he saw a woman getting beaten. That's when he jumped out of his car and sprung into action. "I said 'stop' and he starts coming towards me and that`s when I drew on him. He started getting closer and I said 'get down on the ground,'" Blackmore said. He held the man until the police came. The former Marine says this is why he supports concealed carry permits. "We do good things."

Raleigh, North Carolina: On the evening of December 28, 2005, two men approached Damian Powell as he stepped out of his vehicle. According to Powell, one of the men produced a gun and told Powell to 'give it up.' Powell knocked the gun out of the mugger's hand and was able to get his permitted gun from his SUV in order to shoot at the two teens who wanted his money. Witnesses in a Farrington Drive apartment complex in north Raleigh heard gunfire from the parking lot until one teen was shot and he and his accomplice ran away. The police found eighteen-year-old suspects Antoine Sanders and Cesar Solorzano at a hospital where one of them sought treatment for a bullet wound in his shoulder.

Lillington, North Carolina: On December 18, 2008, Derrick Womiack was home with his wife and stepson when four armed intruders attempted to enter his home at about 10 p.m. Womiack wrestled control of a gun from one intruder, which discharged in the struggle. Womiack then fired at the men. Two of the assailants were wounded--one apparently by a shotgun blast fired by his accomplice--and were taken to area hospitals for treatment. The other two assailants fled the scene. The police did not release the names of the suspects.

Description:
Lumberton, North Carolina: On November 6, 2011, 23 year old Jimmy Locklear fired a shotgun into the hood of a Ford Expedition from an overpass off I-95, disabling the vehicle. One male occupant exited the vehicle and began to wrestle Locklear for his gun. The female occupant of the vehicle pulled a pistol out of a vehicle glove box and was able to subdue Locklear. No further shots were fired, and the suspect was later arrested by police. 'He picked the wrong one to try to rob,' said Sheriff Howard Branch.
