Description:
In a parking lot fight, a man and his wife beat a restaurant-owner on the head with a metal bar. In response, the restaurant-owner shot the man twice, hitting the aggressor and his wife (who was standing behind the aggressor), with both rounds. The aggressor refused a blood transfusion at the hospital and later died. The restaurant-owner had several head wounds, including a 4-inch wound on his skull that required up to 30 stitches to close, and he now has a permanent brain injury. Manhattan, New York: On August 14, 2009, four men entered the store of 72 year old Charles Augusto, Jr. The men brandished guns and demanded money. After watching one of the criminals hit one of his employees in the head with a gun, Augusto pulled out his shotgun and fired three quick shots hitting all of the culprits. One died almost instantly, another died a short time later. Prosecutors seemed to acknowledge that Augusto acted in self-defense, but were reportedly considering a misdemeanor weapons charge against him.
