China bans Ramadan

Well the banned it in XinJiang for government workers and students. It isn't like they did a country-wide ban where nobody can participate in Ramadan.

Funny shit =
On Tuesday, authorities in some communities in Xinjiang held celebrations of the anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party and served food to test whether Muslim guests were fasting, according to Dilxat Raxit, spokesman in Germany for the rights group World Uyghur Congress.

Can imagine people pretending to swallow food and doing the napkin maneuver

China is just following the American model.

Statements posted in the past several days on websites of schools, government agencies and local party organizations in the Xinjiang region said the ban was aimed at protecting students' wellbeing and preventing use of schools and government offices to promote religion. Statements on the websites of local party organizations said members of the officially atheist ruling party also should avoid fasting.

"No teacher can participate in religious activities, instill religious thoughts in students or coerce students into religious activities," said a statement on the website of the No. 3 Grade School in Ruoqiang County in Xinjiang.

Separation of Church and State, remember.

Ramadan is not a day of peace and quiet reflection. Ramadan is traditionally the day when muslims attack.

Ramadan isn't a "day" period it is a month, so we can safely assume you have no idea what you are talking about.

Yes, and observance is banned in the Muslim region. Obvious totalitarianism, just as China seeks "experiments with free markets". Horrid.

"Elderly Chinese people committing suicide before end of the month to avoid province's looming ban on burials

* Anhui province, China, is to ban all burials after June 1
* Anyone who dies after the deadline will have to be cremated
* Officials smash up coffins to drive the point home"

Chinese people committing suicide before June 1 to ensure proper burial | Mail Online

Though the suicide part is sad, in general I support it. Should have that here too. Allocating land for burials when 'garden spot' real estate is overdeveloped already is foolish. Wanna be buried go find a spot out in the desert or something.

If someone has land to sell and someone has money to buy it, it's none of your f-ing business.

Xinjiang is rapidly becoming China's Chechnya, and they will do whatever it takes to tamp it down. I believe the appropriate phrase is: You ain't seen nothin' yet.

Nope.

It is banned for government workers and students in one region, XinJiang.

Great qualifying, as if the Communists will not stifle celebration by all; students comprise a large group, all work for the government, remember? its a "peoples' " state. A totalitarian nation in action: CHINA.

Great qualifying, as if the Communists will not stifle celebration by all;
They won't.

This is more about XinJiang than Muslim. More muslim Chinese live in Gansu province than in Xinjiang, I'm sure you'll find the millions of Muslims in Ganu, Shaanxi, Yunnan, etc. are free to celebrate Ramadan.

all work for the government, remember? its a "peoples' " state.
Negative. There are people who work for the government and have the 铁饭碗 but in Chinese society everyone doesn't consider themselves government employees just by nature of being in a politically communist country.
