Going back to before Trump was the president is a tactic in hopes to impugn one's character enough that it somehow causes the victim to begin making mistakes that not only effects his duty while on station, but negatively effects the 77 million Americans by driving a wedge between him and his base.

Buddy, the 77 million in his base are already having regrets as they watch their jobs disappear, their prices go up, and the quality of their government services decline as no one is there to solve their problems.

It wasn't an overwealming vote. He won by 1.48%, the smallest margin a president has ever gained re-election by, against a black woman running in a racist and misogynistic country.
